Bobbie Hatfield Obituary

Bobbie Smith Hatfield age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at her home.


Bobbie was born on February 2, 1944 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina to Herman and Billie Hinson Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Lee Hatfield and her brother Jimmy Smith.


Bobbie was a dispatcher for the Galax Police Department, a Justice of the Peace, Clerk of Court for Galax Combined Court; secretary to Judge Dale LaRue; secretary to Lawyers Vaught and Loftin and was Retired Chief Magistrate of the 27th Judicial District. Her favorite past time was working in both her garden and flowers which she loved.


She is survived by daughters April Acquaviva (Doug Osborne) of Galax, Virginia; Karen and Randy Phelps of Pinnacle, North Carolina; one grandson Tyler Acquaviva; longtime friends and caregivers Lisa Hobernicht; Anita Davis and Barbara Vaughn.


The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM in the Snow Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ernie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Snow Hill Baptist Church. Flowers will be appreciated, or donations may be made to the Mt. Valley Hospice7599-C Carrollton Pike, Galax, Virginia 24333.


The family expresses a special thank you to all other caregivers over the past few years.

Prayers for all the family enjoyed all the years that I knew Bobbie and worked with her at the police department and when clerk of the court.and chief magistrate She was one of a kind, and everyone loved her and she took care of a police officer friends with food and help. So glad I got to know her become friends with her.
