Bobby Joe Cox

1943 - 2026

Bobby Joe Cox, age 82, of Lumberton, North Carolina transitioned from his earthly home to his Heavenly home on March 25, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 29, 1943 to the late Tilman and Hilda Cox.

Bobby installed flooring for over forty years with his brothers, son, and son in law. When he wasn’t laying carpet or with his family, you would find Bobby with a fishing pole in his hand on the Chowan River in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He looked forward to retirement where he sat outside talking about antique cars, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Bobby was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings Ruby Sealey, Boyd Cox, Faye Moody, Sonny Cox, and Tommy Cox.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Melba Cox, his son Joey Cox (Lisa), his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Anthony Lanier; two grandchildren: John Tilman Lanier (Leah) and Hunter Cox (Taylor); four greatgrandchildren: Ryleigh Cox, Grayson Cox, Jennings Lanier, and Cooper Cox; four siblings: Dickie Cox (Christine), Myrtle Townsend, Annie Rose Bowen, and Elizabeth Taylor; a special niece and nephew: Gina and Howard Branch, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Mt. Elim Baptist Church of Orrum at  645 N Creek Rd, Orrum, NC 28369. A funeral service will be follow on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Elim Baptist Church of Orrum at  645 N Creek Rd, Orrum, NC 28369 with Johnny Bruce and James Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Elim Baptist Church Cemetery.
