On October 28, 2020, our precious father, grandfather and brother, Bobby Gene McDurmon, 89, stepped into the beautiful light of God. He fought a long and courageous battle with lung disease. He was the oldest child of Barney Nolan and Pauline (Oseman) McDurmon, born on November 20, 1930 in Weakley County, Tennessee. He graduated from Martin High School and served in the National Guard. He came to Lansing, MI in 1948. He married Mary Lou Heathcott in 1950 after being “sweethearts” off and on since the 6th grade. Bob was a great storyteller. He retired from Lansing Fisher Body in 1984. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, Steam and tractor shows, camping and touring the United States on a Honda Goldwing Motorcycle with his wife and friends. They traveled over 125,000 miles through the years and toured 47 of the continental United States. He was also involved with his children with any projects they had; he was always there to help them out. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 57 years; his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jim Backlund; his nephew, Tim Backlund; his niece, Pamela (Backlund) Ruppert; and his best friend, Dennis Kindel. Bob leaves behind to miss him, his daughter, Cathey (Jim) Pepper; sons, Dale (Pam) McDurmon and Mark (Lee) McDurmon; his grandchildren, Jeff Pepper and Sarah (Nick Poulias) McDurmon; and brother, Gary (Judy) McDurmon. Due to the pandemic restrictions, the family has chosen to have a private service. Interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. A special thank you to the staff, nurses and aides from McLaren Homecare and Hospice services; also a very special thank you to Dr. Ashim Aggarwal; and his friend and neighbor, Bill Racine. Memorials may be made to McLaren Homecare and Hospice in memory of Bobby. If friends or family would like to send flowers, they may be sent directly to the funeral home on Monday November 2nd.

It was very nice to have met Bob, Marylou and some of the family members. Leeann introduce me to Marylou and Bob. Marylou and I shared some crochet ideas and I later helped Bob with taxes and lots of conversations about his memories and life. May you rest in heaven. Prayers for the family and friends.

I will miss Bob and all of his wonderful stories! You never had a quick visit with Bob as he had a story for everything and time just flew by when talking to him. He was a sweet and kind man! Mary Lou and Bob were like my a grandparents as we lived next door when I was young. Later I returned to that exact house and Bob was my landlord I will cherish those visits and time we spent together!
I know Mary Lou and Bob are on the back of a bike touring Heaven together at last!!
Thinking of you all!!

Bob was a HUGE part in my life while growing up. He and Mary Lou ALWAYS had their door and their hearts open for me. I still see him tinkering in the garage with his motorcycle or keeping busy in the yard. And ALWAYS ALWAYS a short story that usually had some sort of joke or funny ending. You will be missed Bob. Sending my love and prayers to the family.
