Bonnie Owensby (nee Barks) Obituary

Owensby, Bonnie L. (nee Barks), passed away, Saturday, September 4, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Carl Jr. M. Owensby. Dear mother of Carol (David) Witte, Barbara (Kevin) Sayles, Lisa (Glenn) Fox and the late Timothy (Terri, survives) Owensby. Grandmother of Lindsay Lindauer, Matthew Witte, Michael McReynolds and Ashley Witte, Amanda (Ben) Klaas, Dakota Sayles and Connor Sayles. Great-grandmother of Curt Lindauer, V, Maverick Lindauer, John Smith and Axel Lindauer. Sister of Jonathan Barks and the late William Barks and Louise Washburn. Daughter of the late Albert L Barks and Mary Robison (nee Tally). Our dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.
Born in Greenville, Missouri on September 4th, 1940, she grew up in Greenville, graduated from high school and married the love of her life, Carl Jr. They moved to St Louis to start their lives and family. They raised 4 children and were married for 37 years until Carl Jr’s sudden passing in 1995. Bonnie began her career at McDonnell Douglas and worked for them for 24 years giving her all and making many lasting friendships. She also worked at Storz and The Medicine Shop until she retired. Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star and became the Worthy Matron in 1997 with Anchor Chapter 54. She was an active member of the HOBS and Red Hat Ladies group. Bonnie loved going on adventures riding behind Carl Jr on his Honda Gold Wing and traveling with friends and family. Bonnie touched everyone who came into her life. She had a hug and smile for everyone using her special gift to make everyone feel welcome and loved. She was a 3-time cancer survivor and participated in the Susan G Komen Race for the cure for many years. She suffered through the loss of her only son Timothy to cancer. She loved spending time with her family and friends and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many, but we will hold tight to the great memories, love and laughter she shared with each of us. Bonnie taught us all that true strength comes from faith, hope and purpose. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives. Fly high our guardian angel, until we see you again.

I formed my company just 6 houses down from Bonnie, back in in 2000. She was always so kind and sweet to me. Through the numerous home projects I did for her (roof, roof, flooring, deck, doors, windows, etc.) we can to discuss everything from children growing up these days, to strange neighbors, to politics, to our own health situations. I count her as a true friend. I wish we had had more time together though.

Stay golden: I will see you soon, God willing.

"Aunt Bonnie", as we called her, was one of my mom's best friends and one of her longest friendships (50+ years?). Mom (Dottie Brown) and Aunt Bonnie met before my parents met, and their friendship extended throughout our lives. Mom and Bonnie would go to Famous and get French onion soup and sit in the chairs in the furniture section once a month. My mom called it girls night. This meant boys night/pizza for my dad, brother and I. They also went to HOBS for as long as I can remember. I was invited a few times and those ladies are something else. :) Aunt Bonnie came to my concerts and shows too. She was always there for the special events that occurred in our lives. She was so special to our family and will be missed by all of us. She was family. My mom shared a conversation she had with Aunt Bonnie. My mom said how she never felt judged by Bonnie, and Aunt Bonnie said without missing a beat, "And I never will". She was that kind of lady. Much love to her family.

“Aunt Bonnie”, as we called her, was one of my mom’s best friends and one of her longest friendships aside from those she had growing up. Mom (Dottie Brown) and Aunt Bonnie worked together at McDonald Douglas. They were friends before my parents met. She came to my theater productions and concerts, was always there for special family events, and never treated us like less than her family. She was so special to all of us. We are all going to miss her, but most of all my mom. Joe and my condolences to her family. I know how much she loved all of you from what my mom would share.

Much Love,
Steve (Brown) and Joe Williams

My sincere and deepest sympathies go to Bonnie's family and I so wish I could attend the memorial but my sister is extremely ill and I will be taking care of her on Friday. I got to talk with Bon a couple of months ago but have no idea how my cell phone called her as the screen was on the home page and not the contacts screen when I set it down on the table...I decided God knew she had been on my mind and made sure we got to have a delightful talk. For those of us who were blessed to work with Bonnie at Medicine Shoppe International Headquarters, we can attest to what a kind, thoughtful and fun person she was. I have wonderful work memories of Bon, as well as a fun trip to Ireland with her, and the many Red Hat lunches she set up for a group of us who used to work with her. You are already missed, Bon.

I worked with Bonnie at McDonnell Douglas for many many years, and our friendship continued on with HOBS after our retirements. She was a very special person and will be missed. My condolences to her family.

A beautiful and fun loving person to be around was definitely "our" Bonnie. Our McDonnell Douglas ladies luncheon was always fun with Bonnie right there in midst of socialization. To family and friends, I and Sam (hubby), and extend our condolences to you.

Bonnie always spearheaded the MSI Red Hat Ladies luncheons long after the company moved. She always had a smile and kind words to say. God has a special angel with Him.
