Brandy Gallagher Obituary

Brandy Gallagher, age 38, a resident of Glendale Heights, IL, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Monday, February 13, 2017. She was born in Metarie, LA, on November 10, 1978 to John and Molly Gallagher. She graduated from Glenbard East High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She worked at A Place For Mom, where she used her great compassion to help others in their time of need.

During her lifelong struggle with epilepsy, Brandy remained positive and upbeat. By always being supportive of others she became a favorite child, loving sister, confidant, and friend even to people she may have only briefly touched. She loved running, reading, crafting, theatre, Girl Scouts, Christmas (especially baking cookies for others), and buying people silly gifts all year long. She was quick to crack a joke or make a sarcastic comment. Her humor was sharp and sometimes cutting, but she was also just as quick with love. Her heart was huge, and she cared very deeply for her friends and family. If she liked you, there was no way you didn’t know it. You could have just as much fun with Brandy whether you were on some great adventure with her, or sitting at home just hanging out. Everyone that knew her will miss her.

Visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, 320 S. Wheaton, Ave., in Wheaton, IL. Prayers will be said at the funeral home before the Mass at 9:15 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Michael Cemetery, in Wheaton, IL. The family also invites people to join them at their house at 316 S. Washington St, in Wheaton, at noon on Saturday to join together to talk and share stories of their memories of Brandy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Fund Development, 20 South Clark Street, Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60603.

It's been almost 4 years and I still think of Brandy. She and I were in training together and we would call each other after training or during the breaks and figure out how to be successful and reach the most families. What started as a business collaboration turned into friendship and we spoke often. She was a fire cracker and stood up for what she believed. I loved that about her. She blazed her own trail and did it with gusto. I will miss her forever. She along with my childhood friend who also passed away very young will always be missed. God grant all those who love and miss Brandy peace.

We knew Brandy as a beautiful, quiet little girl. But looking at the photos and video you have of her, it's so wonderful to see the vital, friendly, young woman she became who had so very many friends and made such a difference to others. Her passing saddens us very much as it seems all too soon. But we hope her memory comforts you and your family in being reunited with her someday.

Dear Mr. and Mrs, Gallagher,
Brandy and I were in the same 3 person training class together when we started at A Place for Mom. We immediately hit it off and started communicating and discussing how to jump start our careers. We spent long hours talking about how to do certain things and figured out many things together. We were constantly comparing approaches and sharing both successes and failures as we learned and grew together in knowledge. Brandy always went above and beyond to help those seniors and families, whether they had means or not. We spoke at least twice a week and sometimes on weekends. I loved Brandy. She was such an open soul. You never had to guess where you stood with her. She came right out with her thoughts and feelings about life, friends, loves, passions, and epilepsy. We were talking last Friday as I pulled into a parking garage at a hospital. Somehow epilepsy came up in the conversation and we spoke about whether or not she ever had a warning of seizure. She said no she wished she had. I'm not sure why we talked about it but I think God wanted us to discuss it. It makes me feel more at peace that maybe she had no idea of the magnitude of this seizure. If I had known it would be the last time we would talk, I would have cancelled my appointments and talked to her for hours. At the end of every conversation she would say, "Thanks for being my friend Tiff, I love you." That says it all about Brandy. I am changing the way I say good-bye from today forward for those I love and care about. It will be a constant remembrance of a wonderful woman who was an inspiration and example of what putting others first really means. God give you His Peace as you continue to love and remember her. I will never forget your daughter.

February 16, 2017

Molly and Burke,
My heart and soul are with you and hoping there is some peace for you knowing what a wonderful daughter Brandy is. She was a light in a room and will always be your light.
