Brian Goulet Obituary

Brian Albert Goulet, 71, passed away suddenly in a tragic accident on July 22, 2012, while working on his beloved farm.

He was born August 5, 1940 in Vermont to Albert Joseph Goulet and Beatrice Nugent Goulet and was raised in Island Pond, VT. Brian graduated from Brighton High School in Island Pond, served in the US Army and, shortly after being discharged from the military, he met the love of his life, Judith Flow. Brian married Judith on July 7th in 1962; they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Vermont with family.

Brian and his wife moved from Vermont to Alexandria, Virginia where he started his career in automobile sales and quickly became the general sales manager for Koons Ford. Later he joined his father-in-law in the heating and air conditioning business. Brian became the president of M.E. Flow and expanded the business from Alexandria to Leesburg and Winchester, Virginia. Son, Scott, and daughter, Michelle, joined Brian to create a very successful business. A friend once said that Brian "walked the walk" without anyone dictating to him what he "must do." He simply "did it" by living his life and running his business in such an admiral way.

Brian was a beloved member of the communities of Leesburg, Virginia and Island Pond, Vermont. Brian was active with the Leesburg Lions Club, the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Interfaith Relief, and other charities in Virginia and Vermont. He was generous and always gave back to his community. Brian never forgot his Vermont heritage. He always wanted to be home around his family, friends, horses, dogs, and farm. He was especially proud of his grandkids and attended many of the games and events in which they participated. Brian was generous, cheerful, and funny with a charismatic personality.

Brian is survived by his wife, Judith D. Goulet, son Scott B. Goulet and his wife Teri Goulet, grandchildren Michael, Ben and Krista Goulet of Hamilton, Virginia, daughter Michelle Goulet-Swart and husband Frankie Swart, granddaughter Amanda Swart of Hamilton, sisters Bonnie Goulet Maurycy of Niskayuna, NY, Claire Goulet Barnes of Island Pond, brothers Craig and Albert Goulet of Island Pond, and Aunt Roberta Harvey of Manchester, NH.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at St. John's Catholic Church in Leesburg, Virginia. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia. Eulogy and reception to follow for friends and family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to St. Paul's Catholic School in Barton, Vermont, Catholic Charities of Leesburg, American Legion Brighton Post 80 in Island Pond, Vermont.

I first met Brian over twenty years ago when I was working for Washington Gas Co. Brian had known my Brothers Father in law from the Car business, and we hit it off immediately. When I serviced equipment for Wash. Gas I was required to give 3 referrences for repairs and I would give M.E. Flow of Leesburg, M.E. Flow of Alexandria and some other company that was out of business!! I was downsized from Wash. Gas and was down on my luck, going through a bad divorce, my Father passed away and looking for a job. I dropped off my resume' and not 10 minutes later Brian called me and told me to come by. He hired me on the spot with a very generous offer, a Company vehicle and a gas card. I have been with M.E. Flow for 9 years, off and on, and can truly say I have never had a better job. Brian has helped me and so many individuals that there is not enough time or space to state them all. The Goulet family has treated me like Family and Brian was like a second Father to me. I have never met a more generous, Caring, Compassionate and just plain nice man as Brian Goulet. My deepest sympathy and prayers to all who have had the pleasure of being aquainted with Brian and especially to The Goulet Family. I will never forget all the things you have done for me.

When I first met Brian over fifteen years ago I was amazed at his kindness and generosity. A hot water heater had failed in one of our homeless ministry family shelters on Woods Road and using the yellow pages I had called his business first looking for the quickest service and best price. He took the call and the appliance was installed that afternoon. When I asked him "how much?" on the phone he said "don't worry about it" and refused to accept payment. He has been there to help us numerous times from that day to this. Our water system at the Freedom Center has a much needed new well added to it, a water line between the meter and the building has been replaced at the church on Harrison Street, one of our retreat lodges has been rewired when we couldn't afford it but couldn't afford to operate without it. He always had a smile and a wise crack for me every time I stopped by his office. Having been to Island Pond, Vermont many times in the last few years, I would stop every once and a while and see his sister and brothers at the car dealership, the report was always the same, his kindness and generosity amazed us all. Loudoun County has lost a great man, but heaven has been blessed. I've not experienced such grief since my Dad went on. We share your loss but envy his gain. God bless you family and friends of Brian Goulet.

Brian was my "Guardian Angel" as well as the best supporter he could be of The Salvation Army. He always came to check on me to see if everything was ok and if they were he would try his best to "get my goat". He always made me laugh and meant the world to me. He will always be my "Guardian Angel" and will always be in my thoughts and in my heart! You were so blessed to have him be the head of your family and I know he is watching over everyone each and every moment. Blessings!

An overwhelming sense of sadness has touched so many of us with Brian's passing. Brian cared about people. His charismatic personality allowed him to befriend many whom he came in contact with. Brian's ability to establish a connection with each and every one of us was special. His loyalty and commitment to these relationships was concrete. Though his voice has quieted, his spirit echoes still. God bless.

You have my condolences.

As I read the Obituary, it's quite obvious that he wanted his employees to project the same type of qualities he possessed. He succeeded because I love the service that M.E Flow provides. It feels like home whenever I call. They are always polite, helpful and treat you as though your call is important. Praying the company will remain the same.

Judy, Scott and Michelle,

I am terribly saddened by the sudden death of such a fine man, husband and father. Brian meant the world to me, and with his savvy and accumen was a mentor to all. In so many aspects of life he was more like a step father to me, than a friend. His advice was sound and came from the heart, a rarity these days. Brian was a giver and gave so much to the community and those in need. There are so many stories I could tell! Judy, Scott and Michelle, please remain strong and know that all of you are in our families thoughts and prayers during this trying time. Brian will be sorely missed (especially our great lunches) but never forgotten. The Lord has all of our days marked, but today, he called home one of his finest men!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian's loving family through this sad time.

Brian was more to us then Chuck's boss. He was a part of our family. He was one of the most caring men we had ever known.

Brian would stop by Fireline, just a couple doors down to see Tom and I. He would come in and ask "where's the boss" and Tom would point to me. Brian would say "I thought so" and sit down laughing. Those two would start fussing over nothing and I would tell them to kiss and make up. By the time Brian would get ready to leave, they were best buddies. The three of us had alot of good laughs together.

I will miss him not pulling up in front my office window blowing his horn and waving. He was everyone's guardian angel.

Brian just so you know dear, you haven't gotten away from me giving you a hard time. I will find you in heaven one day and make up for lost time.

Chuck, Josh and myself will love and miss you always. You will forever be in our hearts.

Brian was a man of integrity and honor, setting the example and leading the way for family, friends and employees. He had a way of challanging everyone and making them want to rise to the occasion. The sign of a good man is the material progress he has made, but the sign of a great man are the lives he has changed forever that he leaves behind. Anyone who knew Brian knows a great man has touched their life. Rest in peace our friend.
