Brian J. Elverud, 66, of Leeds, ND passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 4, 2022 at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Sharon Baker officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Everyone is welcome to stream the service online through Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page.
Brian was born June 16, 1955 to Harry and Adeline (Svendsbye) Elverud in Devils Lake, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Leeds and attended school at Leeds Public School, graduating in 1973. After graduation, he went to work for Barry Smith Masonry out of Devils Lake. He worked there for a few years and then continued his masonry work on his own and spent many years working with Dave Lynnes and Lynnes Masonry. Brian also enjoyed working at the Leeds Locker Plant with his brother, Dale, and other close friends.
During the late 1970s through the early 1980s, Brian ventured out to do custom combining with Dale and their close friend, Jim Hofstrand. Brian was a perfectionist when it came to his work. Many people admired the immaculate work he did as masonry.
Brian met his wife, Kellie Hjelden, in the fall of 1988. The couple was married in August of 1990. Brian was blessed with three bonus children and together they added another child to the family tree. He loved all of his children and each of them brought more joy into his life. Brian cherished his family and the relationships he had with each family member; from his parents, siblings, wife, children, nieces, nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Later in life, Brian was blessed with 12 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Brian was a selfless person and always did his best to make sure everyone else’s needs were met before his own. He enjoyed helping members of the Leeds community with yard care, helping them clean out basements when they would flood and keeping their walkways clean during winter months. Brian was also a proud member of the Leeds Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending Sunday services. His faith meant a great deal to him.
Throughout his life, Brian enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a devoted fan to the Minnesota Twins, Timberwolves and Vikings. You would often find him sitting and listening to the games on his radio while watching another on his TV. He also loved gardening and would dedicate so much work into keeping his garden free of weeds and tending to each plant. Brian also loved making memories with his children and many nieces and nephews through camping, campfires and countless hours on the lake.
Brian is survived by his children, Jessica Hjelden (Bryan Wilhelmi), Patrick (Kerrie) Burris, Amie (Kenton) DeMontigny and Joshua (Tina) Elverud; 12 grandchildren, Mason, Maddison, JayKob, Adelaide, Kaleb, Khloe, Kinley, Lincoln, Lilli, Ryder, Kane and Kimber; brothers, Dale (Connie) Elverud and Alan (Melanie) Elverud; sisters, Jayne (Tony) Nieman and Julie (Paul) Christenson; sisters-in-law, Shelli Elverud, Kathy (Charlie) Schwols, Wendy (Gerald) Lawrence and Pamela (Rick) Ross; brother-in-law, Douglas Hjelden; numerous nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kellie Elverud; parents, Harry and Adeline Elverud; brother, Neil Elverud; sister-in-law, Bobbie Elverud; niece, Savanna Nieman; nephew, Matthew Lawrence.
