Bruce Lawrence Broden, of Bradenton, passed away at Tidewell Hospice House on August 17, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 63. He was the son of the late Willard Cannell Broden and Carol (Kederich) Broden. Bruce was born in Washington D.C. spending his early childhood in Vienna, VA, until the family moved to the Chicago suburb of Barrington, IL in 1964. He was an active participant in many team sports including swimming, football, baseball and hockey. He enjoyed the hockey league for years, often playing outside on the frozen lakes. Bruce was involved in Boy Scouts, learning valuable life skills through camping and service. He also was an active member of the Episcopal church youth group, serving as an acolyte and on mission trips. As a teenager, he worked delivering newspapers for the Chicago Tribune and helping at a local horse farm. Bruce graduated from Barrington High School in 1973 and moved with his family to Bradenton, FL in 1980. He opened his own business, Bruce’s Taxi, in 1985 and the company has grown tremendously in Manatee County as the area continues to expand. As owner/operator, Bruce was admired for his friendly and reliable service. He always had a positive attitude, being kind and generous. He loved playing golf with his father, Bill, and Sunday dinners with his mother, Carol. Family was very important to him. Bruce is survived by his siblings: Barbara Broden Patterson (Lawrence) of Loveland, OH; Pamela Broden Othen of Minnetrista, MN; Scott Broden (Nancy) of Smyrna, TN; Robert Broden of Bradenton; nieces/nephews: Kimberly Patterson Plagge (Robert), Lindsay Othen, Tyler Othen, Silas Broden, Zane Broden, Edward Plagge. Bradenton has surely lost a good friend, but also a good boss. I worked with him before he started his own business, yellow cab of bradenton. Usually never heard him complain about things, usually would just say, Oh well.
I wanted to return to bradenton. But saddened to find this. Last time we talked, he opened a place just off Cortez Rd, and wanted to convert to a bid system dispatch the way Yellow did.
Well my brother, you will be always rembered, and I pray you R.I.P.

Bruce was a loving, caring, jovial uncle. He had a heart of gold, was loyal, positive, happy go lucky, and a true man of his word. He was a true light to many and will be missed greatly! May he RIP.

Bruce Was the best boss a person could have. Always easy going but knew his business. We didn't call him "Fearless Leader" for nothing. I worked for Bruce for over 10 years and they were some of the best times in my life. He always treated me right. I sure will miss talking to him. I considered him a good friend. Rest in peace Fearless.
