Carol was the epitome of a school health nurse. She had respect and interest for all. She was a wonderful teacher who cared if you "got it". She gave so much as a nurse, teacher and friend.

CAROL WAS A DEDICATED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL AND A GOOD FRIEND TO ME AND MY FAMILY. WE WORKED ON SEVERAL JOINT GRANTS AND PERSONNEL ARRANGEMENTS BETWEEN THE ECU NURSING DEPARTMENT AND OUR COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT. CAROL WORKED WITH MY SCHOOL NURSES AS WE DEVELOPED OUR PROGRAM WITH MRS. ADDIE GIRFFITH BEFORE SHE RETIRED. CAROL WAS AN INSPIRATION TO MANY OF OUR YOUNG NURSES IN THE PITT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND ON THE ECU NURSING STAFF. THE EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE WHICH SHE BROUGHT WITH HER FROM THE NC DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PROVIDED A HUGE ASSET OF COOPERATION AND COORDINATION BETWEEN THE PITT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THE ECU SCHOOL OF NURSING AS WELL AS WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AND THE MEDICAL SCHOOL. CAROL IS GREATLY MISSED NOT ONLY BY ME AND OUR FAMILY BUT ALSO BY THE ENTIRE PITT COUNTY COMMUNITY WHOSE RESIDENTS SHE WAS COMMITTED TO, ESPECIALLY THE STUDENTS IN THE LOCAL SCHOOLS WHOM SHE WAS ALSO COMMITTED TO AND DEDICATED TO AS WAS OUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT SCHOOL NURSING STAFF. WE HAVE CAROL AND MARGARET, AND HER FAMILY, INCLUDING CAROL'S BELOVED GRANDCHILDREN, IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND ALSO HER LOVING HUSBAND GEORGE AND STEPSON ROBERT, AND FAMILY. ALSO HER BELOVED SISTER MARCIA HOWLETT. VERY SINCERELY, ROGER B. AND FAMILY

Carol and I shared many good times in public health, both in practice and in education. Her expertise in school health was undisputed as one of the best of all time. She tackled hard problems and worked tirelessly for school children and for school nurses. I can honestly say she was one of the most dedicated public health nurses I have ever known in my career. She never cut corners or short changed anyone........and she wanted everyone's best work........nothing less. Her sense of humor came in at just the right time to make the tough days better. She leaves a beautiful legacy of caring.................
