Carol Kommer Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Carol Ann Kommer, 87, on January 14, 2026, in Hiawassee, GA. She was born in Rosebud, MO to Carl and Iva Thacker.

She dedicated her life to her family and retired from the St. Lucie County school system in Florida where she worked for many years as a secretary, school counselor, a substitute teacher and finally as an administrative assistant for Student Services. She was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her kindness, strength, sense of humor, and fierce love for her family will forever be remembered. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Kommer, both her sons Kevin (survived by Allisen) and Tim (survived by Cathy), her parents Carl and Iva Thacker, her brother Jimmie, and her sisters Naomi (Richard) and Janet (Carl).

Her legacy lives on through her daughters Christie (Al) and Kathy, her grandchildren Kaley (Aaron) and children, Karen (Troy) and children, Taylan, Brady, Brianna and children, Brittaney (Joe) and children, Russell and children, Kenzie and children, Jennifer (Derek) and children, Al Jr. (Desiree), Angie (Josh) and children, her brothers and sisters Sharon (Jerome), Joe (Sue), Tom (Vicky), Debbie (Greg) and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We are comforted in knowing she has gone home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and friends she has missed dearly. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved late husband and her two sons at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce, Florida.

In lieu of a service, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date, and donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Her wishes were to be remembered for the beautiful life she lived with joy, faith, humor, and love.

My sweet Nina! I was blessed to be your granddaughter who had her first birthday in your Conley Place home in Fort Pierce. You showered us all with incredible love! You always told us grandchildren that we were beautiful and smart... something I've always cherished. Your cooking was delicious! Growing up, I would rather be with your during the summer than summer camp. Kids were annoying - you were fun! We went shopping, walked the dogs (susie, sam, and sunnie), grocery shopped at winn dixie, stopped by Eckerd (now CVS), and more. My time with you has been held close to my heart since childhood. The greyhound bus that was transformed into an RV, the welding barn on your property where grandpa and dad (kevin) built many cool things, riding my honda dirt bike all around the yard and hill, the foxes that would visit from time to time, the chicken coop, etc! Kaley and Christie staying with you was my favorite. Kaley was (and is) my idol. I wanted to do everything like her! When we had sleepovers, you would give us your room with you fancy iron bed, silk sheets, and tv! So much fun to be had at Nina & Papa's house. Don't we all remember grandpa's famous ham, brushed with molasses! When you moved to North Carolina, we were all so sad. But I knew it was what you and Grandpa wanted. First your home on Cherry, then Firescreek. Nina, you are iconic in every way to me. From your Truman Capote collection to your dog babies whom you adored. Thank you for blessing our family with immense LOVE and understanding. I know it wasn't always easy - but you've left a true legacy of a loving family. Reading how everyone loved you just confirms the angel we all had in our lives. Thank you for every ounce of love, care, prayer, and sweet words you gave to all of us. Now is your time to rest.... to enjoy the peace and love that is GOD and heaven. As others have said - rejoice with your boys and grandpa. They've waited many years to see you again. I love you with all of my heart

I knew Carol as a child from the days of “Jack & Jill” daycare in Union MoShe and Naomi Hoerr were my second mommas as I stayed under there care while my momma worked! Carol was always kind & loving to all of us children under her careI remember at nap times I would be fortunate to get to go to her home and visit and play with Kathy (her daughter) and Lynette (Naomi’s daughter)I’m so sorry for the family’s loss but Heaven gained another soul for God’s kingdom! What a reunion Carol is having! She has No more pain, suffering or sadness but eternal bliss in the arms of JESUS! We will see her again and she will be one of many of our Loved ones waiting to welcome us home at Heaven’s Gate! Love and prayers for Comfort & Peace to her family! Run your race of Life for Christ Jesus and remember Carol is cheering you on!❤

Carol, although her proper title is aunt, she was a second mother to me. She and my mom were so close and our families spent every weekday together at the daycare that they shared ownership of. We also spent many weekend nights at each other’s houses until they moved to Florida. I have never met and don’t anticipate ever meeting anyone as selfless and kind as she was. She loved us all so unconditionally and always put everyone else’s needs or wants before hers. She also had a deep love for all animals. Carol was the strongest person I have ever met. Even through experiencing so many tragedies that would have hardened and destroyed the most steeled of men, she remained soft spoken and so loving towards others. I will miss her so deeply for the rest of my life here on earth and look forward to seeing her and the many family members and fur babies we have in Heaven!

Carol was a great mother in law (back in the day) she was never pushy, just helpful. She made sure everyone got together for all the holidays. I spent many days at her house with everyone else. Her and Christie drinking champagne while cooking, or painting their nails. I thought it was so cool her name was Carol Ann just like my mom. Our families had lots of similarities. While I may not have seen her in a long time, she was never forgotten. We will keep her company in Florida.
