Carol Van Lew was born December 19, 1929 in Canton, Ohio and died with her daughter at her side on May 29, 2023 in Denver. She was intelligent, resilient and beautiful, a good Christian and talented soprano, and, as secretary to the first President, was instrumental in the establishment of El Paso Community College in Colorado Springs (now Pike’s Peak State College). Before that she worked for Hornbein and White, the architects who designed the conservatory at the Denver Botanical Gardens.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (David) Dieter, grandson, Samuel Dieter and granddaughter Joan (Matthew) Dieter-Mazza, all of Colorado, as well as two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard, and son Steven.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 1:30pm at South Suburban Christian Church, 7275 S. Broadway, Littleton, CO 80122. Just as Carol did, please direct your generosities to The Tennyson Center for Children, 2950 Tennyson St., Denver, CO, 80212, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, PO Box 49104, Baltimore, MD, 21297
