Charles Gray Barnes Sr.

1932 - 2024

Funeral services for Charles Gray Barnes Sr., 91, of Bonham, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2024 In Wise Funeral Home Chapel with visitation starting one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery. Charles passed away on April 1, 2024 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. 

Charles was born October 4, 1932, the son of Tommie and Tennie Barnes. Charles joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He excelled as a sonar engineer while in the Navy and this quickly led to his lifelong career in sonar technology. Charles married Shirley Ann Fitzwater on Feb. 10, 1956, in Dallas, TX. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2022. Charles' love of family, quiet spirit, and one-of-a-kind laugh will live on in the lives of all who knew him. Of all his accomplishments in life nothing compared to being a Grand Dad. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren at all their games and events. 

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley Ann Barnes, and son, Charles Gray "Chuck" Barnes, Jr.

He is survived by son, Kevin Barnes and his wife Melissa of Rockwall, TX. Many grandchildren including Mark Barnes and wife Jessica, Kelsey Barnes, Alexis Britton, John Britton, Ryan Barnes, Caitlyn Sorrells and husband Michael, and Dillion Barnes, Charles was also blessed with several great grandchildren, Veronica Barnes, Darby Barnes, Madelyn Sorrells, Aubrey Sorrells, Jaden Barnes, and Peyton Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Mark Barnes, John Britton, Ryan Barnes, Dillion Barnes, Kelsey Barnes, Vinny Barton and Bobby Barton.
