Charles “Chuck” F. Poehlmann, 93, entered eternal life on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Milwaukee Catholic Home Health Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
Chuck was born in Milwaukee on August 14, 1930, to John and Elizabeth (nee Heiser) Poehlmann. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Marie Scholzen, on December 26, 1953, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Racine, Wisconsin. Chuck graduated from Marquette University and set off on a career in banking which started with the Marine Bank, which was subsequently purchased by Bank One, and ended when he retired as a vice president of Bank One Wisconsin Trust with 42 years of service. Chuck and Marie were long-time members of St Monica’s Catholic Church in Whitefish Bay before moving to the Milwaukee Catholic Home Residence 6 years ago.
Chuck, along with his wife Marie, took on many volunteer activities in retirement including, Pro-Life Wisconsin, North Suburban Special Olympics, St. Bens Community Meal Program, delivered unsold bread from local stores to food pantries, The Padre Serra Basketball Tournament and the Greater Milwaukee Open golf tournament later renamed U.S. Bank Championship. Chuck also loved professional and college sports always following the Brewers, Packers, Bucks, WI Badgers, and Marquette. He also loved to golf and was blessed to card a hole-in-one during one of his many rounds. Chuck and Marie also loved to travel and visit sites throughout the continental United States and the World.
Surviving are his wife Marie and his children, Jim, Tom (Donna), Karen (Craig Gatling), Dave and Katie (Joe Griffin), twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Schultz and Anne Neja, sisters-in-law, Lois Poehlmann and Gail Inda, and brother-in-law Richard Schowalter.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth, brothers Jack and Joe, sisters Betty and Lynn, brothers-in-law Terry Inda, Ken Schultz, Bob Neja, and sister-in-law Pat Poehlmann.
A heartfelt note of thanks to the St. Camillus Hospice team for the compassionate care extended to Chuck in his time of need.
A Funeral Mass will be held at The Milwaukee Catholic Home St. Anne’s Chapel on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM with a memorial visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A private family inurnment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Mequon, WI at a later date.
In memory of Chuck Poehlmann, memorials to Pro-Life Wisconsin or St Ben’s Community Meal Program in Milwaukee.
