Dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Charles Earle Hannett, known affectionately as “Chuck” (1945–2025) passed away on October 31, 2025. He was 79 years old.Chuck was born in Brooklyn, NY to his parents, Madeline and Charles Sr. and grew up in Elmhurst with his sister Susan, later moving to Flushing, NY.He graduated from Newton High School in Elmhurst in 1963. He went on to study graphic arts and mechanical drawing at New York City Community College and graduated in 1965.
After college, Chuck proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he worked in the artillery division as well as transportation and supply management.
After the war, he began his professional career in printing sales where he thrived in business and built successful relationships with his clients. He worked for GS Lithographers in Carlstadt for more than 25 years where he was promoted to Vice President of Sales.
In 1970, he married his beloved wife, Anna, and moved to Rutherford, NJ, where he lived for more than 55 years. Together, they loved taking road trips, going to the theatre, spending time outdoors and building their home with their beautiful family.
Chuck was best known for his quick wit, love of linguistics and languages, reading, judo, history and music. In his younger years, Chuck loved to stay active and sometimes ran up to six miles a day and could cycle for more than 80 miles at a time. He was very artistic, loved to tell stories and had many “unique” inventions.
He also loved his forever friend “Squeaky bird”, his pet cockatiel, who he had for more than twenty years.
Cherished husband of the late Anna Hannett (Picarello), Chuck is survived by his children, Christine and her husband John, Steve and his wife Kate, and his beautiful grandchildren, Matthias, Julia, Luke, Felice and Nathaniel, as well his precious sister Susan and her husband Chuck, in addition to his nieces and grand nephews.
Chuck was very generous and had a heart to help others. He will be greatly missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday December 20 at 10 am at Abundant Grace Christian Church, 70 Home Ave. Rutherford, NJ.
