Cheryl Boeder Obituary

On February 10, 1945, Cheryl Yvonne Boy was born to Howard and Judith (Brekke) Boy in Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She became a member of God's family on March 18, 1945 as she was baptized in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. She, along with her brother Robert and sister LeAnn, grew up on a farm near Renner, South Dakota, along the Big Sioux River.

She was instructed in the truths of the Bible and was confirmed on June 21, 1959. After attending grade school and high school, she enrolled in South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. It was there in a Bible Class that she met the love of her life, Verlin Boeder. Verlin entered his post-graduate study at the University of Arizona in Tucson. It was there in Grace Lutheran Church they were married on February 17, 1968 in Grace Lutheran Church by Pastor E. Arnold Sitz. God blessed their marriage in many ways including a son, Jon.

In 1970, the family moved to Tempe and became members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tempe. In 1973, the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Verlin used his skill and knowledge of plant genetics, developing new strains of cotton. In 1987, the family returned to Arizona and to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Cheryl regularly attended church services and Bible Classes. She served the Lord in many ways in her roles of housewife and mother. In Lubbock she did secretarial work for the church and taught Sunday School. At Emmanuel in Tempe she used her beautiful voice in choirs at Emmanuel and Phoenix Symphony. She also served as a manager in a Hi-Health Store. But especially she is remembered for her passionate work in saving the unborn as a counselor in Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center. She did receive an award for her service from National Right to Life.

Cheryl was very concerned about national and political and morality matters. She was not hesitant to speak about these matters. For the last few years and especially these past months Cheryl's health was failing. Her son Jon reports that ever since her husband Verlin's death in 2019 his mother Cheryl lost some spark and direction.

On February 20, 2026, the Lord whom she loved and praised took her home to heaven. The last days of her life was in hospice care at her home in Ahwatukee where the family had lived for nearly 40 years. She is survived by her son Jon, her sister LeAnn Hummel and her husband Joe by Sioux Falls, and by her sister-in-law Marcy Sapuriada of Bloomington, Minnesota; a niece Vicky Johnson; and a grand-niece Katie. She is preceded in death by her husband Verlin, her parents, her brother Robert, and her niece Teresa.

The memorial service will be on Saturday, March 7th at 11am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on 715 W. Southern Ave. A luncheon will follow the service in the Ministry Education Center. The family suggests that any memorials given be directed to the Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center or to the Building Fund (Harvest Time) of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

I have many friends who knew Cheryl and many friends who gave me condolences in honor of her. One friend remembers how Cheryl liked Pat Boone and they moved cattle from one field to another together. I don't remember her helping in the kitchen or making meals like I did, but we are all different. She definitely didn't like Elvis.
