Cheryl LaDuc Karrat, age 75 of Plantation, FL passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023 with her loving family by her side. She had a 26 year long courageous battle with cancer and its many complications.
Cheryl was born in Utica, NY on July 2, 1947 to the late Bernard and Margaret (Margott) LaDuc. After graduating from Whitesboro High School and Elmira College, she began her teaching career in Maryland continuing in New York, Washington State, and finally Florida. She taught every grade level from K thru 12. The majority of her career was spent teaching at Saint David and All Saints Catholic Schools in Florida. She made many life-long friends and touched the lives of numerous students through her love of teaching.
Grandma Shay Shay, as she was known by her grandchildren, perfected the art of planning family events and gatherings. She took any opportunity to bring everyone together – her greatest joy was spending time with family.
Cheryl is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Tony Karrat, her son James (Lina), and her daughters Katherine (Daniel) Jarl and Kimberly (Steve) Rauch. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren whom she adored and cherished: William, Sofia, and Lily Karrat, Thomas and Grace Rauch, and Erik and Hanna Jarl. She is also survived by her sister Linda LaDuc (Tina Fahringer), her brothers-in-law, John, Joe (Pat), sister-in-law, Adele Habeeb, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her family gives thanks for her unconditional love, dedication and support to all those she knew and loved. Cheryl’s family is most proud of her courage and strength in all aspects of her life. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

What can I say about one of my closest friends. I have known Cheryl almost 35 years. In that time, I have known her love for her family, her love of teaching and her strength. I will miss talking to her almost every day and hearing about her children and grandchildren, who she loved dearly and keeping her updated on Days of Our Lives. I know Tony and her children will miss her dearly. Love and prayers to all. I know I will think of her often.
