Chester Damico Obituary

Chester James Damico passed away October 19, 2025 at 99 years old. He was the son of the late Tony and Mary Damico of Monongah. He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Anderson (Charley), his three grandchildren, Natalie (Andy) Jefferis, Meredith (Jacob) Dailer, and Ty (Christina) Anderson, and his four great-grandchildren, Trey Jefferis, Tessa Dailer, Cal Dailer, and Avery Anderson.

Chester was a carpenter by trade. After working on several new homes, including helping build his parents’ home in Monongah, he worked for Fairmont Wall Plaster installing kitchens and baths. In 1964, he went out on his own and started Fairmont Kitchen Center. By 1979, Fairmont Kitchen expanded to manufacture their own custom cabinets as Mountaineer Cabinet Company. Over the years, Fairmont Kitchen and Mountaineer Cabinet grew to be well respected for their craftsmanship, design, and deep commitment to customer service that comes with the knowledge of a lifetime carpenter. Prior to his retirement, his daughter, Trudy, took over the business and design operations. His grandson, Ty, is now owner and operator of Mountaineer Cabinet Company and continues to manufacture custom cabinets, distributing to dealers throughout the tri-state area.

Over the years, Chester enjoyed mentoring young carpenters and installers. It was his time teaching his grandson, Ty, the business of cabinets that will forever be his legacy. The friendship and respect that grew between them during those years will remain forever. Chester also loved to hunt and fish at his camp in Moorefield accompanied by his best friend, Mickey Stevens, and nephew, Phil Diamond, and great-nephews, Paul and Michael Luzadder and Jim Diamond.

Chester was also a great gardener as was demonstrated by the figs he would baby to life each year. Even in his oldest age, he continued to connect with nature by being an avid reader and collector of National Geographic Magazine.

The family has entrusted arrangements to Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. A private interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.

Chester was a fascinating and extraordinary. He was a man of faith and family!!! His business thrived and continues to thrive bc he cared about people. Chester was at our home almost every day when his craftsmen were installing our kitchen. Even though Bob Tinnell was here everyday keeping an eye on detail, ( another cabinet man) Chester had to make sure his cabinets were going to be done right and everyone was happy. He was genuinely the sweetest person. Chester left leaving his business in good hands. His generation was the best! He will be sadly missed!
My daughter, Cristina told us about Chester’s passing last night, I don’t get the paper so we are very sorry that we missed the visitation.

I really enjoyed working with Chester. He was a true craftsman and a good friend. I can hear him now saying, as he often did at the end of the workday,
"I'll see you cats later"

I would like to express my condolences to Chester Damico’s Family. He built my lovely kitchen cupboards in 1967 for my newly built home in Pleasant Valley! It was a show stopper! We sold our home in 2006 to move to our farm. My father Tony Slate was a friend of Chester’s. He insisted I buy my kitchen from Fairmont Kitchen. Italians are known for their craftsmanship. He touched many families in his business. His life will live on through his daughter & grand children.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of them. Love & caring Nancy & Tom Bickerstaff
