Clarence Pressnell Obituary

Clarence Wayne Pressnell, 79, of Pittsboro, MS passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.

Wayne was born on January 7, 1946 in Athens, Alabama to Clerence Leamon and Mildred Wigginton Pressnell.  He married Eva Lou Austin Pressnell on September 29, 1964.  They made their home in Pittsboro, Mississippi where he was the owner of North Mississippi Carpet and Rug.  He was very passionate about his work and loved to make sure all his customers were pleased with his work.  Wayne did his best to make sure that each job was completed on time and to the best of his ability.  He managed to run a successful business while also watching grandchildren run through out what they called the “plant”.  As he began to age and slowly step away from the carpet and the rug business his focus became his great-grandchildren.  Each great grandchild had a nickname that he gave them specifically.  He cherished each moment and opportunity to be with them.  He was a family-oriented man and loved spending time with all his family. In his younger years Wayne had a passion for flying and aviation.  He accepted Christ in his youth and was a member of Sardis Springs Church of Christ where he grew up in Athens, Alabama.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mildred Pressnell, a devoted wife, Lue Austin Pressnell, and a brother Bobby Pressnell.

He is survived by a daughter, Gay (Robert) Tedford of Bruce and a son, Tony (Aliza) Pressnell of Pittsboro. Grandchildren, Danica (Josh) Doss of Calhoun City, Kyle (Jeri Laken) Tedford of Bruce and Justin Pressnell.  Great grandchildren, Ryland, Ainslee, Link and Huxley Doss, Jersi and Jett Greer and KK Tedford. Brothers, Billy Pressnell, Leamon (Brenda) Pressnell, Dwight (Cindy) Pressnell, a sister Shirley White all of Athens, AL and a host of nieces and nephews. Wayne also leaves behind a special friend Clara Hitt of Walthall, MS.

Visitation will be Friday May 30, 2025 from 11:00A.M. until 2:00P.M. at the funeral home.  A funeral honoring Wayne’s life will also be Friday at 2:00P.M. in the Chapel at Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Chrestman, officiating. The burial will be at County Line Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Doss, Ryland Doss, Kevin Gaither, Larry Hodges, Shane Kirby and Hank Ruth.

Memorials and contributions in Wayne’s honor may be St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Parker Memorial Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the Pressnell family during this difficult time of loss.

Sure am sad to hear about Wayne. I passed a few days ago and saw him sitting on his front porch. He was always so nice when we stopped in to see about flooring. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
