Corey A. Merriweather went home to be with the LORD on Saturday, August 23, 2025. He was born in Petersburg, VA on October 27, 1978, to Anthony and the late Betty Hawkins Fagon. He was the youngest of four sons.
Corey was raised in Petersburg, VA. He was educated in the public school system, attending Walnut Hill Elementary, Peabody Middle School, and Petersburg High School.
Corey accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at Abundant Life Bible Mission in Petersburg, VA. His life was a journey filled with faith, love, family, and sadly, many illnesses. Corey loved the Lord and was an active member of the Mission, serving wholeheartedly in many ministries. He especially loved working with the younger children. He taught Saturday Night Bible classes, assisted with the Christian Youth Ministry, Youth Camp, and Children's Church.
Corey loved serving Jesus and helping the saints whenever he could. He was a devout member of several ministries, which included the choir, men's singing group, library, food ministry, van ministry, men's fellowship, adult retreat, and devotional speakers' ministry.
Corey enjoyed collecting action figures and building Lego constructions. He was also quite skilled at creating computer art, which he would frequently send to his dad to critique; his dad agreed that Corey had talent. Corey was an avid wrestling fan and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
Corey enjoyed talking to people wherever he went and sharing the Gospel message by handing out tracts. His faith was of the utmost importance to him. It was that faith that helped him come to terms with his illness. In his last text to his dad, Corey said, "I am feeling at peace. I have no pain, nothing. I'm ready."
Corey leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted father, Anthony Merriweather; stepmom, Portia; brothers, Garrick "Ricky", Aaron (Elba) and Wendell; maternal grandmother, Doris Hawkins; a host of dear aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends, including lifelong friend, Authur Cole Ill, and his ALBM family who will miss his kind spirit and warm smile.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." - John 14:27

When we were kids Corey always came around 1712 68th ave .with the same great energy. I last saw him at my cousin Chris's home going and he didn't disappoint, the same loving vibration and in the the midst of what was happening he took a second and wanted to know how I was doing. A very genuine spirit, and I rejoice to know he is not in pain anymore

I really enjoyed the many times spent with you brother, fellowship with the saints, getting our laugh on, and sharing inspirational words with each other. I’m going to miss you brother, and though it still feels surreal, I find comfort in knowing that you surrendered you life to Christ, and that you’re present with the Lord as we speak. Love you brother , see when I get there, Farewell Corey
