Curtis Lewis, Jr. Obituary

Curtis Lewis Jr. lived a life full of love, laughter, and quiet strength. On Saturday, December 27, 2025, he peacefully completed his earthly journey leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness.

Curtis entered this life on August 21, 1958, to the late Curtis Lewis Sr. and Mary Louise Lewis of Ashland, Virginia. He accepted Christ at an early age at Providence Baptist Church in Ashland, Virginia. While receiving his education through Hanover County Public Schools, he was a proud graduate of Patrick Henry High School. His career as a Facility Technician extended over decades, marked by dedication and excellence.

Whether enjoying the company of his devoted companion, Tamela Snead, fishing with his friends Michael Shelton and Melvin Claiborne (Junnie), playing horseshoes, or spending time with family, he embraced life with joy and spirit. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Celtics and the Pittsburgh Steelers and could always be found enthusiastically cheering them on.

Above all else, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishments were being a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He cherished and embraced those roles because the love he had for his family knew no bounds. He stepped up in a big way for his great-niece; Ziyah Chandler and they shared a special bond. We could always rely on him to be there with an open heart, a listening ear, open arms, and always a joke or two.

We will miss him dearly. His laughter, his love, and the light he brought into our lives can never be replaced. He will forever be remembered by us as “the life of the party.” Lighting up every room with his impeccable sense of style, joy, rhythm, and infectious spirit.

Left to treasure his memory are his loving children Christopher L. Grimes (Danielle), Donte’ L. Straus (Kimberly), Taron T. Young, Rashad D. Lewis (Amanda), and bonus daughter Tyrese Coleman-Strait (Kevin); his dutiful grandchildren Fraquan M. McNeil, Syaani H. Kelly  (Cody), Marcus C. Holman, N’dyah S. Harris, Ashauni Z. Young, Noah M. Huff, Cailen J. Grimes, Jebari M. Young, Donte’ L. Straus Jr., Takauri N. Young; his beloved sisters Sandra L. DeBorous (Enos), Sharon L. Lawrence (Samuel), and Shelia L. Straus; his cherished nieces and nephews Shannon Lewis (Elena), Enos DeBorous Jr. (Fiora), Sharonda Lewis, Diandra Finney (Dwayne), Stephanie Lawrence, and Stacie Williams (Eric); special friends whose loyalty never wavered Sherwood Mason, Carl Grimes, Kevin Winston, Timothy Toliver, and James Tillman; four great-grandchildren, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dear Lewis family: I am so sorry about Curtis. I put him in Jesus hands. He was a quiet guy, at least in the 70s in high school. He wasn't a trouble maker like lots of guys. I only saw him in school and he kept to himself. Jesus bless and comfort this family now. I'll keep praying for you all, Jeannie George

Awesome neighbor, friend, person. I watched you grow into a fine man. As you matured into a father and a watch guard for your parents and siblings. I’ve always felt a great respect for how you carried yourself and the respect you showed for others. Your love the Boston Celtics and the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were winners at the highest level and your efforts mirrored that of a winner. You will be missed. RIP “Warrior”, you earned your wings. Alvin Jackson aka Tank
