Cynthia “Cindy” Smith Obituary

Cynthia “Cindy” Leah (Ryker) Smith, 65, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2026, with her family by her side. Born April 17, 1960, in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of Joan Chretien. After growing up in Lafayette, NJ, and Lawrence, MA, Cindy lived in Salem, NH, where she raised her children before eventually settling in Manchester.

Cindy treasured her time at Essex Aggie and graduated from Salem High in 1979. She studied human services at Springfield College and dedicated 29 years to the NH Department of Health and Human Services before retiring in 2022.

Cindy devoted her life to her children and was an exceptional mother, wife, Grammy, sister, auntie, and friend. She was always on the move-exploring local cemeteries, attending the annual Lupine Festival, playing Scrabble at the Marion Garrish, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and visiting with her dear friends and family.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Randy Smith; daughter, Diane Leuschner and her partner, Rob Grant; son, Kurt Leuschner; stepson, Andy Smith (Dawn Marie) and their children Alexis, Daniella, and William; stepdaughter, Stacie Wood (Chris) and their children Brenden, Ryan, and Jodie; sisters, Gail Iller and Betty Ann Ryker; nieces Kristin, Erika, Rachel, Robyn and Bernice; nephew Daryn; great-niece Rae; beloved cousins, and dear friends- you know who you are.

To honor Cindy, we encourage you to do something kind for someone in your community or by donating as you are able to your local animal rescue organization.

I don’t even have the words right now. Thank you for being the best Godmother a girl could ever ask for. You taught me empathy, how to see the world differently, and what true compassion looks like.

From picking up hitchhikers on the side of the road to laughing over burnt popcorn, every moment with you carried your unforgettable spark. I’ll always hold those memories close to my heart. Love you Auntie Cindy.
