Darrell Leiker Obituary

Darrell Leiker, 75, of Kansas City, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2018, surrounded by family.            Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 5 to 7 pm with Mass at 7 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th St, KCMO 64155. Cremation and a private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HappyBottoms Diaper Bank; Catholic Communities Hospice; and Holy Family Catholic Church.

Darrell was born in Wichita, KS, loyally served his country in the Vietnam War, and retired from Georgia-Pacific Corporation after 35 years. Through his humbleness and quiet faith, he was a mentor to many.  He was a loving husband and father who often demonstrated his devotion to his family through his delicious barbecue. He was an exemplary grandfather who affectionately earned his title “PaPa” by spending countless hours in lively play with his grandchildren.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Celly and Leona Leiker; and two grandsons, Andrew Leiker Termini and Teddie Flournoy.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pam Leiker; Chris, Holly, and Lucas Leiker; Cathleen, Dan, Grace, Jack, Thad, Catie, and Ellie Flournoy; Carrie, Taygan, Gabriel, and Karis O’Brien; Lisa, Jon, Emma, and Grant Avery; and siblings, Janice Higgins, Nancy Richards, and David Leiker.

Darrell was such an amazing person. I went to work for him August 12, 1985 as a utility man at Georgia Pacific. During that time Darrell always had an incredible smile and always made sure to thank his team of employee's for all their efforts. As the years passed my admiration for the leadership he provided grew. Darrell gave me the opportunity to grow with Georgia Pacific promoting me several times, spending countless hours teaching me how to read P&L's, identifying trends, and teaching me how to be a successful Manager while not comprising my values, morals or ethics. He always treated his employee's with the upmost respect as he did their families. He always made sure to thank the spouses of his team and made sure they were a part of the Georgia Pacific family. Darrell touched so many lives, he was admired in many ways and for me he was admired for all he taught me on and off the "field". Darrell was so much more than just my "boss" he was my friend, my mentor, my coach and in many ways a second father to me. I absolutely would not be the man I am today without the influence Darrell had on me. I will miss Darrell but what he taught me will always remain with me. Rest in Peace Darrell, I know someday our paths will cross again, you will be missed my friend.

Pam and family,
I am saddened to learn of Darrell's passing....He was one of the nicest guys I ever met....
I never knew he served our country in Viet Nam, until now...for that, I am grateful.
Please know that I share the sorrow of your loss.
