David Jayne Obituary

David Jayne, age 45, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. David was the quintessential "good guy": upstanding citizen, rule-follower, hard-worker, always happy to help others, and a person of faith. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he grew up playing many sports, excelling in school, and rooting for his beloved Cardinals. Throughout his life, David rarely sat still, always wanting to be active and accomplishing something. He could fix anything around the house and especially loved to be outdoors, tending to the yard or going for a run.

After graduating from Ritenour High School, he went on to obtain degrees in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T and the University of Connecticut. He started his career working in corn processing, then moved into chemical engineering research and development, where he thrived: first in automotive fuel cell development, then in specialty chemicals and industrial water treatment. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and was well-regarded by his colleagues.

He is survived by his wife, Callie, whom he met on their first day of college and whom he loved, in his words, immensely. Their two daughters, Audrey and Lydia, were the joy of his life. When they were young, he would readily volunteer to coach their soccer teams, be their running buddy, and be assigned a character in their dress-up plays. As they grew up, David never missed a band performance, theater production, club soccer game, or cross country meet. He was always excited to spend time with his family, whether they were going on their annual trip to the apple orchard, collecting shells and rocks on a variety of beaches, or exploring national parks and forest preserves. But even a simple family dinner, often ending in dad jokes and eye-rolling laughter, brought abundant happiness to his life.

Also surviving are his parents, Dennis and Donna Jayne, sister Kristina Lam and her family, brother Matthew Jayne and his family, and grandmother Juanita Hayes, age 95. In addition, his in-laws, Calvin and Joan Lyons, Cara Fulkerson and her family, and Julie Headley and her family survive.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospital, Maple Glen Memory Care, and Suncrest Hospice for the excellent care they provided to David.

A Celebration of Life visitation and service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Markiewicz Funeral Home, 108 E. Illinois St., Lemont, IL. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.

In David's memory, please consider making a monetary donation to Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine Nervous System Tumor Bank, in hopes that one day his horrible diagnosis will no longer be a death sentence for anyone else.

So saddened to hear that David has passed away. He was always a pleasure to work with. I'll always remember our conversations about our families, his community (especially after the tornado in 2013) and of course, the St. Louis Cardinals. I enjoyed his daughter's artwork which he proudly displayed in his office. He most definitely was a "good guy". I have missed him since he left Evonik.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Heartfelt condolences to the family & friends. If you had seen and worked with David, you would have never expected such untimely demise. He was vibrant, full of vigor and energy with positive outlook on life. Kudos to those who wrote such an elaborate & fitting obituary with an interesting title “celebration of life”. Will cherish his memories, having worked with him at Evonik/ Degussa/ Goldschmidt at Mapleton, IL.
Rest in Peace ☮

Enjoyed working in the Mapleton PDSU under David’s direction, where he was always encouraging and supportive of others input. Often shared stories of his family, especially his daughters and what they were involved in. So sorry to hear of David’s passinggone much too young.
