David Surbrook Obituary

David William Surbrook of Cypress, Texas passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022 after a brief illness at the age of eighty. David was born on September 24, 1942 to the late Catherine Allus Surbrook and Hazen W. Surbrook in Hamtramck, Michigan.

At a young age, David proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Lexington as well as earning an Associate's degree. He would later go on to become an entrepreneur as co-founder and co-owner of Texpert Machine which he passionately ran until his retirement in 2017.

In 1998, David married Mary Jo Altimore Surbrook. In their 24 years of marriage, they shared 4 daughters, 1 son, 1 daughter-in-law, 3 son-in-laws, 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson-in-law, 2 granddaughter-in-laws, and 3 great grandchildren. The love of his huge blended family deservingly earned him his most favored title, “Poppa”. David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Christopher Surbrook; brother, Robert “Bob” Surbrook; sister-in-law, Marion Surbrook; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Surbrook; and ex-wife, Diane Dyer.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his son, Scott David Surbrook and his wife, Tina; his daughter, Catherine Grace Cooke and her husband, Chris; his stepdaughter, Melissa Miller and her husband, Russell; his stepdaughter, Nicole Roberts; his stepdaughter, Michelle Vicary and her husband, Brent; as well as grandchildren: Scott Jr. and Amanda Surbrook, Mark and Vinessa Cooke, Connor Cooke, Brett Miller, Kristen (Miller) and Ryan Johnson, Ashlyn Vicary, Taylor Vicary, Caden Roberts, and Jaxson Roberts. Great grandchildren include Scott Surbrook III, Carson Cooke, and Olivia Cooke. David is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Lisa Surbrook as well as brother-in-law, Pete Altimore Jr. and wife, Norma. His beautiful influence extends to numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who he cherished dearly.

David’s easy-going nature always led to fun times and numerous adventures. He loved flying, sailing, boating of any kind, motorcycling, cycling, and traveling. He took great joy in appreciating the smaller things in life and always found time for a good cup of coffee, a breakfast taco with a friend, and a Blizzard at Dairy Queen - sometimes, all three on the same day. He was always planning the next family vacation and never seemed to be bothered by the chaos or shenanigans that it might entail. Above all, his love of God was firmly established in his perseverance, patience, and faith.

Funeral services will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church (11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065).
