David Carl Wiehle of Maple Park, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 near his home. David was born in Melrose Park, IL to Clarence and Loretta Wiehle.
David was the founder of Melrose T-Top International. Known by his closest friends in the Corvette business as “grumpy,” Dave loved to work but also loved to complain about it. In the late 60s and 70s Dave was a mechanic and bodyman. He loved racing and spent much of those years traveling the Can-Am and SCCA circuits. In the late 80s Dave started manufacturing Corvette T-Tops out of his four-stall body shop in Melrose Park, IL. After some tough decision making, he and his wife Genese rolled the dice and went into business full time making Corvette T-Tops, continuing to do so until their retirement in 2020.
He is survived by his loving wife Genese; children Kathleen(Aaron) Calcagno, Michael(Lisa) and Christopher(Nicole) Wiehle; grandchildren Sophia and Miles Calcagno; Grayson and Isabella Wiehle; and Caden and Raegan Wiehle. Brother-in-law Ed Spicer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
David was a gun enthusiast and WW2 buff. He and his wife were longtime members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2022 from 9am until time of memorial service at 10am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 511 Russell Rd, DeKalb, IL 60115.
