Deacon Cooper was caring, loving, knowledgeable Deacon and New St Paul has lost one of it's best. May the family find peace in knowing that we loved him at New St Paul and he will forever be in our hearts and thoughts. May God bless all of us with the strength to get thru this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss. My prayers are with the family . He was a good husband father brother son uncle cousin and friend. I will miss talking to him. Rest in Charles. God has gained another angel.

Deacon Charles G.'s Obituary

Deacon Charles George Cooper, Sr. of 1423 North Lee Street, Americus, Georgia died Thursday, June 27, 2024 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of the New St. Paul Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

Deacon Charles George Cooper, Sr. was born to Deacon Anderson C. Cooper and Mrs. Thelma Mercer Cooper on May 8, 1939.  He was the fifth of 11 children to this family.  He was raised on a farm in Sumter County, in a little house off of 195, near Leslie, Georgia.

He attended Welcome School and in 1953 he joined the New Pineville Baptist Church where he served as an usher for seven years.  In the year of 1963, he joined the New Saint Paul Baptist Church.  He began his faithful service on the Board of Deacons in 1970.  In 2021, he was named Chairman of the Board.  He has also served as President of the Usher Board, as Bible Class instructor, Vice President of the Free Will Usher Union, and the Superintendent of the Sunday School. 

In 1961, he married the late Mrs. Delois Chambliss Cooper and the Lord blessed them with seven children.  In 1981, he married the late Mrs. Mary Mable Cooper and gained six children.  They shared their lives together as a family until her passing.

Never a stranger to work, he was a committed and devoted provider for his family.  He was employed by Harris Backhoe for 30 years.

On Thursday, June 27, 2024 he passed away at his home surrounded by his family.  He was deeply loved by his family and always willing to help in anyway possible.  He is also preceded in death by his parents; his children, Mrs. Shirlene Chambliss Cooper, Mrs. Dianne  Myers, Ms. Alma Jean Cooper, Mr. Claude Waters, and Ms. Debra Ann Waters; and his sisters, Mrs. Marie Joyner and Mrs. Vivian Bridges.

He is survived by his loving and devoted children, Deacon Charles (Rosie) Cooper, Jr., Ms. Jackie Hall, Mrs. Lisa (Tyrone) Thompson, Ms. Sharon Cooper, Mr. Sam (Shirlene) Mable, Mrs. Mary (Mickey) Waters, and Mr. Eddie Waters all of Americus, Georgia; a host of loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; his caring brothers, Deacon Albert (Josephine) Cooper, Sr. of Americus, Georgia,  Deacon Alonzo (Helen) Cooper of Decatur, Georgia, and Deacon James Leonard Cooper of Smithville, Georgia;  his loving sisters, Mrs. Mabel Cooper Williams of Augusta, Georgia, Mrs. Doris   Hightower of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Meleshia Pizarro, Mrs. Evelyn Terry and Ms. Dean Cooper all of Americus, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Waters of Americus, Georgia; his brothers/sisters-in-law, Mr. Johnnie Mable, Mrs. Ola Mae Lyles, Mrs. Patricia (David) Bell, Mrs. Evelyn Floyd, Mr. Joe Lewis Mable, Mrs. Johnny (Patricia) Mable, and Mrs. Mary Clark all of Americus, Georgia, Mrs. Dorothy (James) Hamilton of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mrs. Evelyn (Jimmy) Asberry of Ellaville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
