Deacon George Whitehead, Sr. of 806 West 22nd Avenue, Cordele, Georgia passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at his residence.
The funeral service will be held Monday, December 30, 2024, at 12:00 Noon in the sanctuary of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.
Deacon George Whitehead, Sr., a cherished and beloved husband and father, was born in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia, on May 13, 1952. He was born to Authur Lee "Jack" Whitehead and Agnes Dunbar Whitehead. His upbringing in the public schools of Crisp County laid the foundation for a life marked by faith, dedication, and compassion.
George embraced his faith wholeheartedly, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior. He joined the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, where he became an integral part of the community. His commitment was evident in his service as President of the Voices of Praise, President of the Senior Choir, and the Brotherhood of Gethsemane. His ordination as a deacon was a testament to his steadfast dedication, serving faithfully for many years. Additionally, he was a valued member of the Travelers Men's Club.
In his personal life, George found joy and companionship with his beloved wife, Artis Ann. Their marriage was a testament to love and devotion, with George's affectionate call to Ann being a cherished memory for those who knew him. His family was the center of his world, and he relished the time spent with his children and grandchildren, creating memories filled with love and laughter.
George will be remembered as a man of great compassion and humility. His genuine love for his family and his enjoyment of discussing his faith with others made him a beloved figure in the community. Whether engaging in heartfelt conversations about his God or being a familiar face at the Cordele Farmer's Market during the summer, George's presence was a source of warmth and comfort.
George's life came to a peaceful close on December 23, 2024, at his residence. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family and community.
Memories will live with his wife, Artis Ann Brown Whitehead of Cordele, Georgia; his children: George (Kenya) Whitehead, Jr. and Seneicus Whitehead of Cordele, Georgia, and Tomas Whitehead (Lashonda Johnson) of Warner Robins, Georgia; his grandchildren, Trikeria Addie, Justin & Tina Gaston, Tyshion & Julius Hill, Franquez Harvey, Daje Whitehead, Mariya Hamilton, Tynykia & Andricus McClelland, Rakim Rashard Ross, Stelphen Whitehead, Treasure Whitehead, Marissa Harrell, Amare Whitehead, Cojordan Whitehead, J'dyn Chancey, Heavun'ly Whitehead, Tomas Whitehead, Jr., and Destiny Walker; 20 great-grandchildren: his sisters, Jackie (Fred) Brown and Betty Ann Whitehead of Cordele, Georgia; his brothers-in-law, Marvin Brown, Diamber Brown, Curtis Ludden, Sr., and Donald Hicks; his sisters-in-law, Ella Mae (Larry) Davis, Dr. Barbara Whitehead, Paulette Thornton, and Laketha Whitehead; a special son, Mike, and a special daughter, Shon Oliver; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends, including Reco Young of Florida, Willie C. Coleman of Cordele, Georgia, Curtis (Pamela) Ludden and Wanda Scott of Leominster, Massachusetts, Jermiah Williams, and Deionta Anderson of Cordele, Georgia.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Annie Mae Ludden, Gloria (Spencer) Pace, and Lessie Hicks, William Whitehead, and Authur Whitehead.
