United States Army Veteran, Deacon John Edward Hancock, Jr. of 204 Peachtree Street, Warwick, Georgia died Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Fort Early Baptist Church in Warwick, Georgia. The burial, with military honors, will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
Friday, November 10, 1933 was a special day for John E. Hancock, Sr. and Virginia Battle Hancock. They were blessed with a son, who they lovingly named John Edward Hancock, Jr.
Born in Pavo, Georgia, he received his early education from the public schools and churches. He earned his GED at Southview School in Cordele, Georgia. As a student at Albany Technical School, he studied Automotive Repair.
A believer in Jesus Christ, he accepted him as his Lord and Savior. Ordained as a deacon, he was a faithful member of the Fort Early Baptist Church. For 30+ years he served as Chairman of Deacons. He had also served as Vice Chairman of Deacon and Treasurer for 30+ years.
Deacon Hancock enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and served his country honorably. During his years of service, he earned many awards and commendations, to include: The Korean Service Medal w/two Bronze Service Stars, The United Nations Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal. His military service commitment was completed in the United States Army National Guard.
Deacon Hancock’s impact upon people was always displayed through his conversation and his character. His devotion to his family and his church was never ending. He lived a life of service and so many people were made better because of his way of living.
Exactly 90 years after his earthly birth, Friday, November 10, 2023, he peacefully transitioned to his eternal rest. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Emma Jean Hancock Jones, Mary Frances Hancock Rockwell and Eugene Hancock.
Precious memories will be remembered by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Ola Mae Monson Hancock of Warwick, Georgia; his loving and devoted children, Donald E. (Gloria) Hancock of Warner Robins, Georgia, John E. Hancock, III of Warwick, Georgia and Kathy D. Hancock of Cordele, Georgia; four beloved grandchildren, Dante (Melanie) Hancock of Atlanta, Georgia, Taiesha Hancock of St. Joseph, Michigan, Wesley Hancock of Perry, Georgia and Jamal Tolbert of Cordele, Georgia; his great grandson, Preston Hancock of St. Joseph, Michigan; his beloved nieces and nephews, Shirley Davis, Eula Boatwright, Geraldine Terrell, Dell Jones and Craig (Nita) Jones; a beloved cousin, John L. Battle; a host of other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include his close friends, Will & Bonnie Morris and Paul & Gladys Alford.
