Della Mae's Obituary

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion, with our dear loved ones who’ve gone before; in that fair homeland we’ll know no parting, Beyond the sunset forevermore!

Della Mae Jackson Marsalis a native of McComb, Ms, and a longtime resident of Metairie,La passed away on Saturday February 8, 2025 at the age of 87 yrs old, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her infectious laughter and jokes will always be remembered. Her love for her children and grandchildren was a bond that could never be broken. 

Della Mae was born in Amite County, Ms to the late Isidore Sr., and Lauren Jackson. She accepted christ and was baptised at Carrollton Avenue Church of Christ.

Della Mae was married to the late Coleman Marsalis Sr., with whom she shared many years together. The bond they shared they raised nine (9) children who will carry in her legacy of love and faith. Coleman (Joyce) Marsalis Jr., Freddie Marsalis, James Marsalis, the late Jesse (Antoinette) Marsalis, the late Nonia Mae Marsalis, Charles (Angela) Marsalis, Kathleen Marsalis (Lonnie) Nabors, Willie (Pap) Marsalis, and Rhonda (Nuchie) Marsalis, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Coleman Marsalis Sr, parents Isadore and Laura Jackson, her siblings, Rosalie Jackson (Sam) Washington, Isador Jr., "Crook" (Rosalie) Jackson, Willie Mae Jackson (LC) Butler, Ernest "Mann" (MarryMae) Jackson, grandchildren Robert Earl Marsalis and Dewayne Marsalis, and her in laws Curtis Marsalis Jr., JD, RethaMae, and Maggie Bates.

Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers and members of Hollygrove Church of Christ and all neighboring churches are all invited to attend her Celebration of Life on Saturday February 15, 2025 at 10:00 am at Hollygrove Church of Christ 2940 Cambronne St, New Orleans, LA 70118, her son Pastor Charles Marsalis will be the officiating minister. Interment will follow at Brown Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery 4850 N. Greensburg Rd., Smithdale, Ms. 39664. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am in the above named church.
