He was born February 23, 1969 in Wichita, Kansas to James Gaetano Ascanio and Marjorie Lorraine Shaw Ascanio. He worked for United Industries as a supervisor. Derek was a avid Kansas City Chiefs Fan and was always hopeful for back to back Super Bowl wins. He loved living in Pea Ridge and enjoyed wood working. He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors are his mother, Marjorie King of Wichita, Kansas; siblings, Cindy Ascanio (Elizabeth Wimber) of Garfield; John King (Vicki) of Walnut, Kansas, Teresa Deaver (Bruce) of Wichita, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date when family can meet safely. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Derek, we were always a long drive away from you and did not get to see you that often. I know what a great woodworker you were. I saw the beautiful furniture you made. You had a bit of a rough beginning as a preemie, but you recovered and were just fine. We are sorry for your passing. You had much to give to the world. The last several months were difficult. Rest in peace, dear nephew. We love you. God bless.
