Desmond Joseph’s Obituary
Desmond Joseph Ranquist of Blackfoot, ID left us unexpectedly on May 5, 2022 after
gracing us with 400 days of endless love, laughter and affection.
Desmond was born in Helena, MT to Edward Joseph Ranquist III (Joe) and Ellie Kate
Chidester Ranquist on March 31, 2021. Desmond was an angel in our midst and was treasured
every day. He swooned when his mom sang songs to him, excitedly welcomed his dad home
from work and reveled in his nightly bathtime ritual. He started crawling at 5 ½ months old, took
his first steps at 12 months and had just recently cut his 10th tooth. His first word was “mama”
who spent every day covering him with kisses and making his baby food from scratch.
Peek-a-boo, swimming, playing “mousy” with dad and tickles made him shake with laughter. He
had an ear for music and every tune had him bobbing his head to the beat of the song. He kept
his parents busy as he was always on the move and busy taking toys in and out of their place
and knocking down the piles of laundry. His infectious laughter brightened our days and his
tender touch is forever imprinted on our hearts.
Desmond was a seasoned traveler and experienced many family vacations. His
adventures began in Helena, MT when he had his first camping trip to Canyon Ferry Lake with
his mom and dad when he was just 6 weeks old to celebrate his dad’s birthday. Shortly after, he
and his parents moved from Helena to Blackfoot after his dad graduated from welding school.
He spent weekends in Island Park, ID with his parents, Chidester grandparents, aunts and
uncles. Desmond’s first airplane ride was to Chicago, IL at 2 months old to visit his dad’s side of
the family where he cheered on the Chicago White Sox, visited Millenium Park and was
showered with love. At 4 months old, Desmond and his parents drove to Wolf Creek, Montana
for a Chidester family reunion. Deer Valley, Utah greeted Desmond for his first New Years Eve
party, fireworks and a sleigh ride. He celebrated his 1st birthday in Tucson, AZ with a trip to the
Reid Park Zoo and a special celebration with his loving great grandparents, Mario and Margaret
Bognanno. A second 1st birthday party was hosted by his Chidester grandparents back in
Blackfoot followed by a long weekend in Las Vegas, NV. Desmond’s story will continue to be
told as he moves on to his next adventure of eternal life.
Desmond is survived by his parents, Joe and Ellie Ranquist of Blackfoot, ID,
grandparents Scott and Linnea Chidester of Blackfoot, ID, Ed and Jessica Ranquist of Downers
Grove, IL, great-grandparents Mario and Margaret Bognanno of Tucson, AZ, Edward and Nancy
Ranquist of Marco Island, FL, John and Kathy Chidester of Blackfoot, ID, Karen (John) Driscoll
of Blackfoot, ID, aunts Eva Ranquist, Vivienne Ranquist, uncles Logan Chidester (Bonnie),
Camden Chidester, Gavin Ranquist and Michael Ranquist, cousin Clark Chidester and many
more doting relatives and dear friends. Desmond joins his great aunt Mary Bognanno Rauch
and his great grandfather Donald Clark in heaven.
A funeral ceremony will be held on May 10, 2022 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Hawker
