Dorothy Bredenbeck Obituary

Dorothy Elaine Thrams Bredenbeck of Hampstead, NC died Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Davis Healthcare Center.


She was born March 22, 1928 in Mason City, IA, daughter of the late Elmer Alvin and Florence Erma (Falcon) Thrams.


Dorothy grew up on her family farm, attending grade school in a one room school house before completing high school in Mason City alongside her older sister. Over the course of her 40 year career in banking and finance, she worked in Iowa, Nebraska, California, and finally New Jersey where she and her husband resided after his discharge from the US Marine Corps. She retired in 1987, and she and her husband relocated to Hampstead, NC, an area they enjoyed previously when he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in the early 1950’s.


She was a 53 year member of Amore Chapter (later Tilden Chapter), Order of the Eastern Star in New Jersey. A life-long Methodist, she was an active member of her former church, Teaneck United Methodist Church, and her current church, Hampstead United Methodist Church.


Dorothy enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including crocheting and basket weaving during her retirement, as well as extensive traveling with close friends and numerous travel groups.


Surviving are her children, Craig Bredenbeck and wife Sue, and Donna Marie Capozio; five grandchildren, Christy Bredenbeck; Alyson McQueen and husband Jon; Rebekah Eichholtz and husband Matthew; Matthew Henry Capozio and wife Lauren; Melissa Marie Capozio Jones and husband Cody; two great grandchildren, Alexander Bredenbeck and Ariella Christine Marie Capozio; several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Paul Bredenbeck, three sisters, Eleanor J. Hunt, Irene W. Floyd, and Phyllis A. Luick, and a granddaughter, Laura Ashley Bredenbeck.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. January 28, 2023 at Hampstead United Methodist Church, 15395 Highway 17, Hampstead, NC, officiated by Pastor William Holliday. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sea Lawn Memorial Park.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hampstead United Methodist Church or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
