Dorothy Conyne Obituary

Dorothy Warren Conyne, a daughter of small-town New England who became at home around the world and made others feel at home wherever she was, died Sunday night at age 95.

One of five children born to Claribel (nee Swinington) and George Warren, a carpenter and apple farmer, she was reared in Lyndeborough, N.H. As a teenager, she set her sights on faraway horizons.

After finishing high school and completing business courses, she worked in clerical positions at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston and the State Department in Washington, which sent her to Paris late in World War II. There, she and other female U.S. government employees lived in a building-now a chic hotel--about two blocks from the Arc de Triomphe. She called her time in France her great adventure.

In Paris, she met Albert Conyne, a young U.S. Army lieutenant. After the war, they were wed in Straubing, Germany, the first of 26 postings and related travels that took them to locales such as Panama, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Japan. After Al retired as a colonel in 1974, they resided on Siesta Key and, later, at Bent Tree Estates. He died in 1998, and she lived independently until moving to Waterside Assisted Living at age 92.

Survivors include a son, James Conyne, and his wife, Maribeth, of Chesterton, Ind.; a daughter, Carol Rescigno, and her husband, Richard, of Sarasota; grandson Timothy Rescigno, and his wife, Cristen, of Danbury, Conn.; and grandson Daniel Rescigno of Mineola, N.Y.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 13th, at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota.

Burial, Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Military Family Association, 3601 Eisenhower Ave., Suite 425, Alexandria, VA 22304.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your wonderful Mother. Sounds like she had a wonderful life and a wonderful family. We are also fortunate to stay friends over all these years after your family came to Panama. Jim and Carol you will remain in my prayers. Much love to both of you.
