Funeral service for Dr. Deacon Robert L. Nixon, Jr. will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Bible-Based Fellowship Church, 4811 Ehrlich Road, Tampa, Florida Senior Pastor Anthony White with Reverend Allen Harris, Officiating. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will be conducting a private Omega service from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. There will be a viewing on Saturday at the church from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. (1 hour prior to the service). Interment will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guards. Dr. Robert L. Nixon, Jr. passed peacefully after a short illness on October 28, 2025. Dr. Nixon was born on February 4, 1940, in Leesburg, Florida to Daphne Hope and Robert Nixon, Sr. He later moved to Ithaca, NY, where he graduated from Ithaca High School and was a star football player. He served in the US army and was honorably discharged in 1970. He then went on to matriculate at Delaware State University where he excelled both academically and as a 4-year football player and later inducted into the DSU Football Hall of Fame. Dr. Nixon then went on to receive his PhD from Cornell University, where he was the first African American to receive a PhD from the school of Business and Public Administration. He also completed the Harvard Institute for Education Management Program and worked in Banking and higher education while living in New York. In 1977 Dr. Nixon returned to Florida to become an Associate Professor in the Department of Management and Organization at the University of South Florida. He subsequently served as Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs while continuing to teach at the University, retiring in December of 2007 as Professor Emeritus. He was a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church for over 45 years where he served in many volunteer capacities, including the Deacon Board, teaching Sunday School, singing in the men’s choir and being active in church leadership serving as Chairman of both the church’s budget committee and long-range planning committee. He was extensively involved in the local community, serving on numerous boards of directors for Florida Education Fund and mentoring numerous PhD fellows throughout their graduate programs. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and survived by one brother, Nathaniel Nixon, two sisters, Stephanie and Rosalyn Nixon, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Cherished memories are left with his wife, Clara Blackshear Allen-Nixon; one son, Dr. Quentin B. Allen (Tina); five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
