Dr. Robert Hooke

1951 - 2026

Gretna………Dr. Robert Leslie Hooke, age 74 of Gretna passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at his residence.   

Born September 29, 1951 in Franklin, he was a son of the late John Robert Hooke and Myrtle Marie Hundley Hooke.  He was predeceased by a brother, Dan Alison Hooke. 

Dr. Hooke spent most of his childhood and early adult life in Highland County on his family’s farm where he developed his passion and love for animals.  He was a dedicated veterinarian for 45 years and owner of Gretna Animal Clinic for 30 of those years.  He was a member of the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association and was a Mason and member of Highland Lodge 110 A.F. & A.M. Dr. Hooke loved his constant companion and dog, Addie.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Caricofe Hooke of the residence; one sister, Iris Anne Hooke of Monterey; two sisters-in-law, Nancy C. Swisher of Staunton and Mary C. Rainey of Staunton; two nephews, H. Olen Swisher and wife, Megan of Staunton and Carson Rainey of Staunton; niece, Shea B. Harris and husband, Bryan of Charlottesville; special friends, Valerie Tyree and Virginia Cook; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
           
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Chaplain Ricky Lancaster.

Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton by Rev. Andre Crummett. Masonic Rites by members of both Staunton Lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M. and Highland Lodge No. 110 A.F. & A.M.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contribution be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive Suite 310, Miami FL 33126 or to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, 1931 N. Meacham Road #100, Schaumburg, IL 60173.
