Dr Roger Lee Kinney passed from this life on October 23, 2018. Roger was born on August 12, 1941 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Earl & Katy Kinney. They moved to Edmond when Roger was in 2nd grade. He graduated from Edmond High School, attended college at Central State, graduated from OU Medical School, and was in the National Guard.
Dr Kinney opened his first practice in Sapulpa on July 10, 1967 with Dr Phil Washburn. Over his 50 years of practicing family medicine, Roger touched numerous lives, saved lives, and treated all people with honor & respect no matter what walk of life they came from. The countless stories from patients are the testament to his medical skills of diagnosis and treatment.
Roger is survived by a large loving family whom he adored: His loving wife of 33 years, Cathleen, of Sapulpa, daughter Melissa Kinney & husband Chris Ethridge of Sapulpa, son Barry of Elk City, OK, daughter Jennifer Bishop & husband Chad of Berryhill; He was the proud Poppy to Katie & Emily Bishop of Berryhill; brother Gary Kinney & wife Carroll of Edmond, sister-in-law Cindy Cook of Sapulpa, sister-in-law Carolyn Greer & husband Jerry of Wagoner, nephew Cameron Cook & wife Whitney of Sapulpa, niece Stephanie Barton & husband Steve of Muskogee, numerous cousins & extended family.
Roger loved spending time with his family. He took them to numerous OU football games. He also was a Green Bay Packers fan & enjoyed watching games while wearing his cheese head. He loved to watch his granddaughters cheer on their Berryhill Chiefs & Maidens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Dr Roger Kinney’s memory. You may also donate to the following organization that Roger was instrumental in founding & developing. He wanted this organization to serve a mostly indigent & medically underserved population. Dr. Kinney and I worked together at Bartlett. We became good friends and he became my Doctor as well. He performed my tonsillectomy procedure at 27 years old. And he delivered my oldest daughter making her one of the last babies to be born at Bartlett. He was not only a co-worker and my Doctor, he was my friend. We have stayed in contact over the years. Hewas one of the most compassionate and caring men in this world. He will be truly misssed.
