Dwayne Oscar's Obituary

Dwayne Erie, 82, of Leeds, ND passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.  A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Robert Tovsrud Post #757 VFW Harlow Hall with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery in rural York, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery Association or Leeds Ambulance Service and can be mailed or dropped off at Nelson Funeral Home P.O. Box 409 Leeds, ND 58346.

Dwayne was born on August 4, 1942, in Rugby, ND, to Oscar and Borghild (Brandvold) Erie. He was raised on the family farm near York, ND, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church, rural York. Dwayne started grade school at Beaver Township school house, a mile from the family farm.  After the school closed, he attended school in York and graduated from Leeds High School in 1961.

After high school, he remained on the farm to raise livestock and pursue the dairy cow operation. Dwayne became certified to work under the Minnesota Valley Breeders Association and also worked at livestock sale barns in Rugby and Devils Lake, ND. He enjoyed going to various livestock sales and shows around the state and meeting ranchers from different parts of the Midwest through buying/selling livestock and operating a dairy farm. Later in life, he worked at Moller's, Inc. in York hauling fertilizer.

After his mother, Borghild, passed away in 1999, Dwayne took care of his father, Oscar, until the time of his death in 2003. He picked up good cooking skills from his mom and carried on holiday meal traditions. Dwayne always had a sweet tooth and loved his mom's homemade baking, cooking, and canning. There wasn't a food he didn't like, and his niece, Emma, provided him with baked goods often including lefse, a family favorite, and fresh garden veggies in the summer. Dwayne also enjoyed visits on the phone with family and friends from near and far through the years. He liked to reminisce about past times, cows, and farm life.

Dwayne remained living at home until December 2021 when he moved into the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

He is survived by a brother, David Erie; niece, Emma (Duane) Broe, a great nephew, Emmitt, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sharon.
