On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Earl Henry Hager suffered a catastrophic medical emergency while at work as an attorney at the Mercer County Courthouse in Princeton, West Virginia. Despite the swift intervention of emergency personnel, he died at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.
Earl Henry Hager was born on June 1, 1971, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the beloved son of Elizabeth Ann Hager Gregory. After Earl lost his mother as a toddler, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Julia Hager in Roanoke, Virginia. They gave their cherished grandson their love, attention and educational opportunities. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from Concord University before attending WVU College of Law and graduating in 1999. Earl worked in private practice and for the Harrison County Public Defender’s Office until he moved to Princeton in 2005 to take a position with the Public Defender’s office in Mercer County. Along with a partner, Earl established a practice in 2016 and in 2021, he opened a solo practice in Princeton. Despite several significant health challenges, Earl was able to return to work. The bright light in Earl’s world was his son, Nicholas. He loved watching Nick play soccer, going out to dinner and spending time with him.
Earl Henry is survived by his son, Nicholas Hager; former wife and mother of his child, Natasha Hager; as well as his cousins, Sarah Harris, Betsie Harris Camilliere (Jim) and Tom Harris (Sarah), their families and his dear, lifelong friend, Janet Bowen. A memorial service to celebrate Earl Henry's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. September 27, 2025 at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. Reverend Ed Pettus officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday.

You will be missed my friend. I know you’re at peace and in Heaven with our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:1, 6-8
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
