Ed Tomlin Obituary

Cecil Ed Tomlin, 77, of Lake Kiowa, TX, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019 in Denton, TX. He was born August 27, 1942 in Ft. Worth, TX to Cecil William and Viola Violet (Vinson) Tomlin. Ed married Madolyn McDade on June 6, 1964 in Ft. Worth, TX.

Ed was the youngest of three kids, the last living survivor in his family. He had a strong faith and came to know the Lord at age 8 and lived a life of serving others. In these recent months, his faith deepened as he felt the prayers of SO MANY friends and even people that he did not know covering him.

Ed was a loving father and proud of his two children Trina and Brian and he constantly reminded them. He was employed by the Denton Fire Department for 41 years, serving as a captain for over 35 years. After he retired in 2009, he loved to travel in their motor home with Madolyn and several friends to play golf all over the country. Also, in retirement, he went back to work at the farm he grew up on, raising cattle and baling hay, just for fun. In his free time, he loved hunting, shooting skeet at the gun range he made at the farm, and fishing. He loved to spend time with his grandkids…and did often. He had a love/hate relationship with remodeling…he remodeled every house they ever had…sometimes more than once! He loved his golden retriever, Molly, who beat him to Heaven by eleven years. No doubt, he is throwing a tennis ball with her now!

People say that he is one of the greatest men and role models they’ve ever met...humble, kind, generous and hard working. One of a kind, truly!!

He is survived by his wife of 55years, Madolyn of Lake Kiowa, TX; son, Brian Neil Tomlin and wife Lise Anne of Shady Shores, TX; daughter, Trina West of Denton, TX; seven grandchildren, Taylor Tomlin, Hayden Tomlin, Connor Tomlin, Carley Tomlin, Cameron West, Carter West, and Maddie West; and nephews, Curtis Cogburn and wife Tanja of Whitesboro, TX and Bruce Wilson and wife Jennie of San Francisco, CA.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Viola; brother, Troy Tomlin; and sister, Susan Cogburn.

Visitation will be held 12:00PM-1:00PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Denton Bible Church in Denton, TX. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00PM with James Reid officiating. Burial will be at Tomlin Cemetery in Arlington, TX. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.

I am sure he never tried to deny he was a Tomlin. One look and you would know he was a Tomlin.
God bless and be with his family. Ease their sorrow. Knowing the man he was is to know he is now in Heaven.
May the precious memories live on and shared.

Ed was an amazing person! I had the pleasure of spending Thanksgiving, Christmas and countless birthdays and holidays with this wonderful man. He was my sisters father-in-law. Most of the time at any given function he would lead us in prayer before our meal. I cant say enough about him. Our holidays will never be same without this great man! We will all miss him dearly!

My favorite time with Ed is when he came over to Brian & Lise Anne's for Thanksgiving. We would sit outside and talk about whatever was going on in the world at that time.We pretty much agreed on everything and I always enjoyed and looked forward to seeing him every holiday.

I have only known this man for a short time. He was one of the board members when I was voted onto the ICVFD as a firefighter. I can't say enough on the impact that he has made on the department and peoples lives, let alone mine. He was a great role model, if I ever had a question, he answered and shared his knowledge and experiences. This is truly a great man! I will forever remember him and remember the way he treated others!

There are no words to express the shock and sadness of the passing of Uncle Ed Tomlin. When we were kids he was always fun to hang around and always had a smile on his face. He definitely loved his family and his Fire family and everyone that knew him, saw that in his face and actions. I didnt get to see him as much as Id like as I got older, but he is still family and my great uncle Ed and he will always be. You will definitely be missed. Trina, Brian and Aunt Madolyn, i am so sorry for your loss and will pray for you all. We are all family and even though we dont get to see each other like we did as kids, you are all so dearly loved. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
