Robert Edward "Eddie" Lively, age 64, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away suddenly on October 2, 2025. Ed was born on March 3, 1961, in Pensacola, FL to James L. and Joyce Lively. He graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 1979 and proceeded to get his captains license, starting a lifelong deep sea fishing career.
Ed and Ginny were married on October 20, 1990, and have two wonderful children, Ben and Emily. Ed was a devoted husband and father, who was always present at all events throughout his family’s lives including ball games, fishing trips, camping, deer hunting, and more.
Ed always had a passion for the outdoors. The open waters called to him at an early age. He was an avid surfer and fisherman growing up and started his own charter boat company in 1984. His company “Lively Gulf Charters” and boats “Lively One” and “Lively One II” have been landmarks on Pensacola Beach for over 40 years. He always took any opportunity to help his community; running a ferry service for passengers from Pensacola to Pensacola Beach when the barge hit the bridge in 1989. He also served as an observation vessel after the BP Oil Spill in 2010. He was a legend to all that knew him as captain of the “Lively One II”. His call on the radio will never be forgotten.
Ed was an avid hunter who loved having his children by his side to share his passion. There are countless memories with the kids growing up camping and hunting at "Piney Woods" and "Breezy Point" hunting clubs in Alabama. The past few years have brought home numerous big buck stories from the woods in Marengo, IN. We thank all of the wonderful friends and families we have met throughout the years and the memories we share.
Ed is preceded in death by his father, James L. Lively; brothers, Stan and Stephen Lively; Uncle, Bud Crowson; Aunt Bobbie Scruggs; and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ginny; children, son, Ben (Hailie and Lucie), daughter Emily (Jay); mother, Joyce Lively; niece, Sydney Hooton (Jonah); Aunt, Susan Yeatts; sister-in-law, Wendy Vickrey (Larry); niece, Jenifer Brusa (Tristen and Kade); and brother-in-law, Chuck Knight (Debbie).
Our family would like to thank all of our wonderful village of friends that have helped us through this sad time. Terese and Dave Shearman, Jon and Dawn Howerton, Luanne Moore (Casey and Mallory), Betsy Walker, Pat Coogan, Dr. William "Bill" Howe, Baptist Medical staff and first responders, Drs. Gibson and Heath work family, and the entire close knit fishing community from Pensacola Beach, Orange Beach, and beyond.
A celebration of life will be held at Paradise Bar and Grill, 21 Via de Luna, Pensacola Beach, FL 32561, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 4 pm - until.
Ed's ashes will be placed in an artificial reef pyramid scheduled for a later date.

I'm so sorry to hear of Captain Ed's passing.
Several of my family members went on a fishing charter with him in June of 2021. They had the best time and caught so many fish. I didn't go that day but the ones that went had so many great things to say about Captain Ed and all the deckhands on board.
He helped so many families make great memories while visiting Pensacola.
Praying for his family and friends. May he rest in peace

So sad to hear about Captain Ed Lively’s passing. It’s been a while since we last went out fishing with the Captain but he was the best. His passion to putting you on fish, going the extra mile, and treating you with respect (as long as you keep the pole off the gunwale side). A true professional and will be surely missed by all. I’m sure there will be plenty of great stories at his memorial. Prayers to the family and rest in peace, Captain Ed Lively.

I was so saddened to hear about Eddie’s passing. My heart goes out to Ginny, his family and his many friends and customers who loved him dearly. Some of the best and most fun memories of my life were made while deckhanding on the Lively One II! I will never forget his laughter when I was trying to reel in a big fish or trying to keep working while I was sea sick. He was such a nice guy and I had so much respect for him for following his dream. Much love!

Eddie had a smile for miles and lived the life many would dream of. I could only imagine the amazing stories of this "Legend Captain Eddie" and his passion he shared with so many. My heart goes out to Ginny, the family, friends & the entire fishing community.
Bobby Wiedeman was known as "the shark boy"!! Everyone would be catching and he would be struggling with a shark every time. I enjoyed several trips on the Lively One and the fish box was always full! My condolences to all of the hearts you have touched.

Eddie and I go back to the early '70's at the Gulf Breeze school system. He was a couple of years younger than me, but he was so likeable, we (friends) allowed a younger dude to hang out with us. Among others like Bobby Weideman and Bobby John Moses were allowed as well. We all had some of the best times on the beach and throughout our young lives, just hanging out at places like the "Dolphin's Flipper" arcade in G.B. But as all friendships over time, we didn't hang out much after those days. I would see him working on his boats on the island and he would stop and shoot the breeze with me. Our friendship endured through all these years and I'm so sadden to hear of his passing. I will never forget my friend, "The Captain". Condolences go out to the entire family and all who loved Eddie. Rest in peace my brother, we shall meet each other again, I guarantee it. Your friend for life, Wendell.

It’s hard to believe Eddie is gone so soon. Although I’ve only seen him occasionally since moving back, at a GBHS reunion or Lowe’s, my thoughts go back to many a lost summer on the Beach Pier fishing or surfing around the same.
Ginny and family, our heart felt, sincere condolences and prayers go out to you.
