My sincerest condolences to the family, especially my high school English teacher, who never did catch me and Mary jumping out the window early when she was distracted. Mrs. Kerby taught me a lot. So sorry about your brother.

Edward “Herman” Lively passed peacefully from this life at home with family in Spencer, WV, on Saturday, November 22, at age 85. He was the son of Tom and Ruby Lively and grew up in Ballengee, WV. After working as a machinist in Connecticut and Virginia, he operated an industrial saw-sharpening service in Hilldale, Summers County, WV, where he lived with his parents, caring for his mother after his father’s death.
For the past five years, he has made his home with his sister Janet Kay Lively Kerby and her husband Foster of Boggs Fork, Spencer. In addition to the Kerbys, he is survived by a brother Kenneth Lively (Margaret) of Dublin, VA; nephews Keith Kerby (Jennifer) of Spencer, WV, and Chris Lively (Jordan) of Woodbridge, VA; nieces Jill Kerby Holliday (Guy III) of Ghent, WV, and April Lively Snyder (Kris) of Pulaski, VA.
Great- nephews and great-nieces of whom Herman was very fond include Easton Kerby, Reece Kerby, Bristol Kerby, Carver Redden, Augusta Redden, Guy Holliday IV (Bubby), Josiah Holliday, Hailey Holliday, Hanna Holliday, Cambrie Lively, Harper Lively and Quinn Snyder.
Herman was a musician who was well-known across central and southern West Virginia where he played steel guitar in several local bands. Even as health declined, he enjoyed playing guitar at home with fellow musician and treasured friend Terry Upton of Monroe County.
A skilled craftsman, he designed and created many one-of-a-kind items to meet whatever need or want was at hand including custom furniture pieces which now are proudly displayed in family homes.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
