Edward "Johnell" Myles Sr.
Edward "Johnell" Myles Sr., age 70, was born on September 2, 1955 in New Orleans, LA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen Senior High School c/o 1974, and enlisted in the United States Army shortly thereafter. He served honorably from 1974 until his retirement from military service in 1978. His time in the Army instilled a deep sense of discipline and duty that remained with him throughout his life. Edward worked for many years as an AC and HVAC technician, known for his technical skill and strong work ethic, he earned the respect of both colleagues and clients. He approached every task with care and precision. He also worked for the United states postal service as a dispatcher from 1993. On January 25, 1975, Edward married his high school sweetheart, Yolanda Myles. Their enduring union spanned over five decades and was built on love and mutual respect. Together they raised a family that brought them great pride: Edward Myles Jr. (Onjane), Keishon Myles, Keisha Myles-Holmes (Morgan), Donielle Myles, Don Myles, and Khama Blunt. He was the loving and devoted brother of Helestine Hookfin and Ulisia Nevels. Beloved brother-in-law of Vayla Myles and Ronald Nevels. Edward found joy in being a grandfather to Brandi, Nylah, King, Sire, Lovely, Emon, Czar, Marlie, Empress, and great-grandfather to Brayden. He was also embraced his role as godfather to Patrice Robertson Jones, Syrajh Hamilton, and Deanna "Bird' Myles and also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents Delia James and Rev. Ulyesses Martin James; his siblings Jerome Myles, Donald Ray Myles, Jerry Myles and Glenn Myles; and his brother-in-law Leroy Hookfin. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home, 2120 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70113 at 12:00 noon. I will miss our card playing days. You were so much fun and full of life. You were commonly law married to Brenda Vining where you passed away in her loving arms. Although you two were not legally married in the eyes of the law, we know where your heart was for over 25 years. Rest easy brother in law! We love you.
