Edward Francis (Ed) Stemac, 86, of Burnet, Texas passed away June 4, 2022. He was born to Charles and Julia (Bosnic) Stemac on September 25, 1935, in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Ed attended elementary school in Blytheville and high school at Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis, Mo. He went to college at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, on a baseball scholarship. After college, Ed played a year of minor league baseball before and served a six month stint in the Army before beginning his career with Texas Instruments in Dallas. He retired from TI in 1993.
Ed loved sports, especially the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Mavericks, football, golf and any Arkansas Razorback sporting event. He was “coach” to many of his sons and many of their friends, not only teaching them the fundamentals of the sport, but more valuable life lessons of fairness and work ethic. . In 1989, Ed was inducted into St. Mary’s University Sports Hall of Fame. He actually loved fishing, too, and though he usually came home empty handed, it never stopped him from trying.
His special passion was his family. Ed was a loving husband to his wife Sally (Schiwetz) of 57 years; and wonderful, caring and entertaining father to his children, Laura Stemac of Lago Vista, Steve Stemac and wife Kellee of Plano, Ken Stemac and wife Elizabeth of Houston. Ed and Sally were blessed with four amazing grandchildren, Garrett McDonald USMC Camp Pendleton, CA., Camryn McDonald of Plano, and Sloan and Caeleb Stemac of Houston. He is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and his beloved feline companions, Sophia, and Dublin.
Ed loved his church and the many friendships he developed at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen when residing in north Texas, and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay where he has been a member for the past 22 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers William (Bill) and Monsignor Louis Stemac and sisters Marion Kneas and Zaida Stemac.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Horseshoe Bay, Saturday June 11, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or a charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
Ed’s care has been entrusted to Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, Texas 78639. (325)-388-0008

Sally, my sincerest condolences to you and your family having lost Ed. You two were so kind, generous and trusting letting me care for your cats when you traveled, even warning me and leaving me heavy duty gloves to gently and safely handle the ancient, grumpy kitty who needed special care. I enjoyed looking after them and your home. And your humor was always delightful, especially the time I accidentally showed up a day early to pet sit and caught you and Ed in your jammies. Sending peace and affection.

Deacon John and I still fondly recall Ed's joyful birthday celebration at Big Chief Resort years ago. Witnessing his and Sally's fun-loving partnership inspired us all. Ed's longtime service at St. Paul's Horseshoe Bay will be missed. God bless his family.

So sorry and heartbroken to hear about Uncle Ed. He was one of my most adored and certainly loved uncles. I considered myself blessed beyond belief to have an uncle like him throughout my lifetime. He was truly a gift from God. Funny, caring, faithful, joyful, sociable, sympathetic (he attended every funeral in our family) and he was always, always about family. I loved listening to his stories and especially his interests and inquisitive nature about the people around him. I will always remember the best of times with him for the rest of my life. My favorite photo of Aunt Sally and Uncle Ed from their visit in 2011 still sits on my bookcase. My prayers and deepest sympathy to the family. Love from his Niece, Janet and husband Hank.
