Edward Stoner Obituary

Edward Lee Stoner went home to the Lord on December 29, 2025, at the age of 75, in his home in Clarkston, Michigan

Born and raised in Rochester, he often lamented the loss of the farmland of his youth as it was overtaken by “yuppies and McMansions.”  In 1979, he built a home in Clarkston, where he lived for the remainder of his life and raised his family.

Family was the center of Edward’s life. He was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren, especially during their weekly gatherings.

Edward’s life was guided by an unwavering and deeply held Christian faith. He was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church before later worshipping at The River Church, where he volunteered for many years. He ultimately found his spiritual home at Clarkston Community Church. A devoted student of the Bible, Edward amassed an impressive personal library and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of scripture. He shared this knowledge generously with others, especially his grandchildren, for whom he prepared a weekly Bible study.

As strong as his faith was, Edward also possessed a fiercely independent and rebellious spirit, tempered by an uncompromising sense of right and wrong. He marched to the beat of his own drum.

Edward also loved rock and roll, and saw many of his favorite bands perform multiple times. The music of the Moody Blues and Gordon Lightfoot, in particular, provided the soundtrack of his life.

An electrician by trade, Edward held a deep allegiance to his Union, another pillar of his life. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed pointing out buildings throughout the Metro Detroit area that he had helped to construct. He was also a gifted craftsman and woodworker. With these skills, he designed and built a cabin near Lake Huron, meticulously selecting and completing every detail with care and intention.

He is survived and deeply mourned by his sister, Debbie Stoner; his children Natalie Stoner and Joel Stoner; his grandchildren, Alexandria, Jacob, Alyssa, and Dirk; and his great-grandsons, Juelz and Monty.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lewis Edward Stoner, and his mother, Madeline Ruth Stoner.

Cremation Services have taken place for Edward. Arrangements entrusted to Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. In lieu of flowers, Please consider leaving a memory or condolence on Edward’s online guestbook below.

Hello. I came across Eds passing by chance. I'm sorry for your family's loss. I grew up across the street from him and Debbie. He took me on some thrill rides on his motorcycle as a kid, being closer to Debbie's age. Yes we grew up near Rochester when it was still rural.None of his family knows me except Debbie. Hi Debbie, may your brother rest in peace.

I remember Ed from highschool and I hadn't;seen him since that time , we had a tussle after school and it stuck in my mind. I saw him at Tom 's reunion a tall guy came up and gave me a huge hug and ask if I remembered him,and we have all changed after that amount of time so I didn't recognize him , and he said Ed stoner remember when? I am so glad I was able to talk with him ,we laughed about the highschool incident and. every reunion after that we both gave each other a hug and talked. I am so sorry to hear of ed's passing he will be missed by me.

Eddy was my cousin and we have many stories of him growing up. Of course the most memorable is his ability at a young age to outrun his mom, my Aunt Madeline, who had polio as a child and walked with a brace on one leg. She had to slow him down, so she tied him to a garden post so she could hang up laundry. That didn't last too long as he figured out he could wiggle out of his clothes and run off, naked, to the neighbors!
As a teen, two years behind me at Rochester High, Eddy was popular as a friendly, happy-go-lucky, charming guy! I don't recall a lot of girlfriends, but he was liked by teachers. My senior art class teacher, Mrs. Blossom Cohoe, was quite fond of the charmer! In the spring, she would open the classroom back door to let in a breeze. One day two guys ( Ed and Steve Calahan ) from gym class were running by and decided to stop in. They were very chatty with Mrs. Cohoe. We then see them the next day and most days thereafter. Mrs. Cohoe even used them as our drawing models! Eventually, the gym teacher realizes their running times are getting quite long and Mrs. Cohoe has to own up to allowing their visits! I'm sure Eddy charmed his way out of that one!
Will miss you cousin and will hold onto all the memories!

Dear Natalie and family,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. The loss of your Dad and Grandpa — I can only imagine the depth of your heartache. While I only had the honor of meeting him a few times, I know he was deeply loved by many, including my very stubborn, big-hearted Uncle Tommy. I hope you feel the love surrounding you all.

With much love and prayers. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to all those that loved Eddie and cared for him, especially his family. Grateful to have had him in my life as friend and classmate, the man I always called "Cowboy". I will miss his hugs, his presence and the conversations. May eternal light shine upon him and may he rest in eternal peace. In my heart forever.

Dear Natalie and family,

I always thought your Dad was a wonderful father. He really loved his family with deep devotion.
I didn't realize he loved the Lord so much, too!

Let that be your main consolation in his passing. He is behind a veil, but still present and acting in your lives daily.

He will be interceding for all of you before the throne of God without ceasing.
Rest peacefully in the knowledge that his love and concern for you is as sure and strong as ever, and magnified more than ever possible on earth.

This is the beginning of his eternal life. He is waiting for all of you to join him.
Follow in his footsteps of Faith and make him proud.

With much love and prayers,
Maureen Schoen

Gordie and I have a lifelong memory trove of good times and fun we spent with Ed and his kids. We were always there for each other. Everyday life, camping, card playing, raising our kids together. Our house, their house, every week. My home is filled with Ed’s woodworking masterpieces. He was always there with a good hug and we could debate with the best of them. It saddened me deeply to hear he is gone. You will be missed Eddie. Stubborn to the end ❤ love you !

My condolences to the Stoner family. Words can never express how sorry I am . Ed will
be missed in this world, but gained his rightful place in Heaven. He loved his family fiercely & was always such a Good Samaritan to others and a special friend to me, since kindergarten. You gave me so many great memories. You’ll always be Eddie Stoner to me.

My dear friend I will truly miss you. Ed and I have been good friends for about 14 years. Ed was a very caring person who loved the Lord deeply. He came to my Bible studies and was a wealth of information. He was always talking about wanting his entire family saved and prayed for mine as well. If I ever needed anything he was there for me. We have lost a great man but heaven has gained a saint. I will miss you my dear friend.
