From the first time I met Edward, he immediately caught the attention in the room by his radiant personality, and his infectious laugh. No matter what kind of day it was or the situation at hand he always had a smile on his face and positivity in every aspect. I am blessed that I had the opportunity to have had him as a friend. He will be more than missed and always remembered by his amazing spirit. Rest in peace my friend.

Eddie and I met at Lenior Rhyne University. We were roommates. He was a great corner back at LRU, a great teammate, and fun to be around. He will be so greatly missed. Sending my heart felt prayers and condolences to his family and friends. May God comfort you all during this difficult time. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I only knew Edward for a short time, but his conversations left quite an impact on me. I came to work at the park in July 2023, and would talk with him a few times a week right up until his retirement in February 2024. He was one of the few normal people here, and made me feel less out of place. He was very kind and encouraging to me, even on days when I thought taking this job was a mistake. I will miss him, and I offer my sincere condolences to his family for their loss.

Reflections of Life
Edward Andrew Vaughns was a gift given to the late Andrew Vaughns and the late Lucille Jackson on August 2, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. Edward was the second oldest of their four children including Joyce, Tony, and Adriannia. On Thursday, November 28, 2024 GOD called Edward home saying, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
Edward, affectionately known as “Eddie” to some and “Paco” to others, attended Boy’s High School in Brooklyn, New York graduating in 1971. As a vibrant football player, he was known for his intense defensive performance on the gridiron at the Cornerback position Jersey #43. This earned Eddie a full athletic scholarship to the University of Kansas. He later transferred to Lenior Rhyne University and earned a BA in Economics in 1975. While attending LRU, his booming football career continued and resulted in him being a three-year letterman wearing Jersey #47, and being extended a free agent tryout with the New York Jets.
On September 9, 1978, Eddie married Doris McHaney in Hickory, North Carolina. They had two beautiful children Akira “Tori” and Edward “Ron”. Eddie loved his family and instilled in his children the importance of hard work and discipline, teaching them to live life to the fullest. Anyone who spent any time with Eddie will tell you that his laugh could fill up a room! He enjoyed photography and was a lover of jazz music. He will forever be known as the biggest fan of all NY sports clubs including his two favorites, the Giants and the Knicks. For nearly 30 years, Eddie served as an Accountant for Tanglewood Park in Forsyth County. It is there where his children enjoyed many horseback rides and fun days at the park.
Eddie leaves a loving family who continues to cherish his memories: wife, Doris McHaney Vaughns in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; daughter, Akira Vaughns Taylor (Jamil) of Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Edward Kiron Vaughns (Carrie) of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Tony Vaughns (Jeannie) of Albany, New York; sister, Adriannia Delores Vaughns of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kiyah Vaughns of Colorado, Jaleah Taylor and Kenneth Taylor both of Charlotte, North Carolina, Elijah J Vaughns and Ezra N. Vaughns both of Jacksonville, Florida; niece Janell Iman of Goose Creek, South Carolina; nephews Kenneth Vaughns of New York, and Andrew Vaughns of Greensboro, North Carolina; along with a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
