Ellen Marie Wold was born November 1, 1933 at Rosholt, SD, the daughter of Nencel and Elizabeth (Matteson) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Lutheran Church in rural Rosholt.   She grew up on the family farm and attended country grade school.  She went to Rosholt High School until moving with her family in 1948 to New London where she graduated from New London High School in 1951.

On June 9, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gennes Wold. They had six children together.  In 1973, she started a 30 year employment with Menards in Belgrade.  She retired in 2003 and moved to New London where she continued to do bookkeeping and tax preparations for her large family and many friends.

Ellen devoted her life to her family and work and did not many hobbies other than reading educational and professional journals.  She was forever a scholar. She will be missed as loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Aunt Ellen was our family's original genealogist. Over the course of 30 years we had many telephone conversations about our Nelson heritage. She had an amazing photographic memory for dates, names and places. I am forever grateful for the time I spent with her in 2016 listening to her stories. And now we have another guardian angel in our family to watch over us. My deepest sympathy to her family./debbie nelson webster
