Elmer Thomas Bangasser

1942 - 2023

Elmer Bangasser, age 80 of Sioux Falls, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Dougherty Hospice House.

Elmer was born March 9th, 1942 in Sioux Falls to Edward and Mary (Scanlan) Bangasser. He attended Eggers Country School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1960.

Following high school, he served in the US Navy for 4 years aboard the USS Wilkinson on both the east and west coasts. His ship was deployed to the South Pacific during the Laotian Crisis.

On February 27, 1965, Elmer was united in marriage to Mary Beth Baldwin at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.

Elmer was employed at American Freight and Good Samaritan Village. He enjoyed woodworking and pheasant hunting. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Parish.

Grateful for having shared his life are his loving family, wife Mary Beth; son Carl (Julia) Bangasser, Merritt Island, FL; Terry (Teri) Bangasser , Edmond, OK; Jacque (Daniel) Reilly, Northglenn, CO; his 5 grandchildren Mikayla Bangasser, Caterra Bangasser, Callie (Trace) Maddox, Matthew Bangasser, Olivia Reilly, sisters Rita (Harlan) Temple, Ruth Marks, brother Paul (Vonnie) Bangasser, sister-in-laws Pat Bangasser,  Marilyn Bangasser, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary Bangasser, brothers Joe (Edna) Bangasser, Bernard Bangasser, Don (Mary Ann) Bangasser, Gene Bangasser, sister Loretta Karsten, and Brother-in-law Pat Marks.

A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Thursday, March 2 from 6-8pm, with a wake from 7-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Friday, March 3 at 1pm, with a burial at Huntimer Cemetery to follow.
