Viewing will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2014 from 1-6 PM at the Funeral Home.
Funeral service celebration will commence on Thursday December 11, 2014 at Full Gospel Kingdom Church located at 3114 Washington Ave Newport News, Va. Bishop Hawkins will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens 155 Butler Farms Road.
The Gatling/Smith family is receiving services of comfort from Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home.

Bro It's been 9 years and honestly there is not a day that goes by I don't think about you. I often see awkward moments of life and can almost hear what joke you would or word of wisdom you would give. So many times when I was going through God has always allowed you to some how give me comfort and find the strength to move forward even at times when it feels almost unbearable. I made a promise I would watch of your daughter and support in every way possible. We often talk about you or come pay or respects so you know you are never forgotten. Watch over us bro and know we love you beyond measure and miss you dearly. That will never change. Give our sister Netta a hug for me. I know you both up there clowning like y'all always did. We miss you both and love you beyond imagination. I promise to live everyday to the fullest and to make you proud no matter what. Thank you for being the Inspiration for the journey I'm on now. Until we meet again Brother. I am forever my brother's keeper.

"My Brother", I charish those words everyday I walk this earth. I was blessed to have you as my younger brother. I remember our insightful conversations and the many memories we shared from our childhood til we became adults. I often look upon your daughter and see so much of you within her. She embodies all the good that existed in you bro. I miss you everyday and with each passing year my love and respect for you grows so much more. Too often people take the presence of others for granted in their lives. I'm thankful i didnt do that with you. The hardest part not having you here is those days I look in my neice eyes and see how much she loves and misses you. I know how she feels. Brother if i could if God would let me i would give you time and days out of my life so she could have more time with you that would give me so much happiness to let you get that and see you share those moments with her. When you left part of my soul went with you. There are many days I often think of you. Some days I shed tears of joy others I shed tears of pain. But i wouldn't trade those memories for anything because in time they become a gift. They are proof you matter that your very existence matters that is the bond that keeps me going forward. There so many moments in life i said to myself watching you in the distance and saying to myself im proud of you brother. You know whats changed since then? Nothing. Im still proud of you as my brother and my family im proud of the things you did to touch the hearts of others and the time you took to be a blessing to those i do and dont know. Watch over me brother stay with me as these days have been hard without you near me. I walk forward with the knowledge that I will always have you as my brother and family and I pray as I watch over your daughter as her Uncle I make you proud. I am so sorry about your loss, may you continue to trust in God, and know that he is too wise to ever make a mistake, even though the hurt and pain will continue, but we know that time heals all pain. My Brother. As I write this I think of us all running together as kids remembering the laughs we had with our mom and other family members. Emmanuel I truly miss u bro from the jokes, to in depth conversations to just the brotherly embrace. No words can quiet describe the honor I have of knowing you as my brother. I know one day I will see you again but know that so long as live I will do all I can for your daughter my niece. I will be there no matter what. You rest easy my brother and guide me as you deem necessary. I love you more than you can ever imagine. Just know I will always be my brothers keeper .

Sometimes we just don't understand Our Heavenly Father's plans. Today was def one of those days. I pray for the comfort, love, and overwhelming peace for the family and especially the princess of Emmanuel Mannie Gatling Jr.. I couldn't help but to be moved to tears as I learned of the event that took place. Truly God has welcomed His son home with open arms and that gives me peace to know that such an amazingly beautiful spirit is with His Daddy God. Thank you for the blessing of allowing me to know him.To his beautiful princess: may you always know that your daddy still loves you more than anything and will continue to guide you as you develop into a little girl and even young lady one day. Mannie, i am trying to hold back tears as I write to you but I cant. You was always special to me and I would never forget you. You was such an amazing friend. Emmanuel, I don't know what really to say. I've known you since 94 living in pilot house across the street from each other. I have so many memorable and funny stories.
