Evanna Coardes was born on December 24, 1928 in MacBeth, South Carolina, the oldest daughter of the late Moses and Millie Lawyer. However, she was raised by her stepmother, Geneva Lawyer. Evanna fell asleep in death on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at her resident at the age of 93.
Evanna at an early age moved to New York to better her life and later married her late husband, Robert Coardes on August 12,1947. From this union came four children. She had great joy in sewing for herself and her children as a seamstress over the years, including making all three of the girls wedding dresses. But her greatest joy came when she dedicated her life to Jehovah God. She gained many friends through her relationship with Jehovah.
On March15,1958, she symbolized her dedication by water baptism in Brooklyn, New York to serve Jehovah forever. In 1989, she strengthened that dedication by becoming a full-time minister talking to people about the Bible’s message, which included conducting Bible studies to help people to come to know and love Jehovah God.
Evanna enjoyed traveling with family and friends to international conventions to places such as Japan, Russia, Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Durban, South Africa. After Evanna suffered a stroke in February, 2018 her health began to decline. Nevertheless, she was always determined to push forward despite her pain and suffering. She was a woman of strength. Her life proved to be an excellent example to all as a loving caring person. For over 60 years she lived a life of dedicated faithful service to Jehovah. We look forward to seeing her joy as she explores God’s new world.
Evanna was preceded in death by her parents, Moses and Millie Lawyer; stepmother, Geneva Lawyer; her husband, Robert Coardes, to whom she was married for 41 years; her brothers, Aaron Lawyer, Leeroy Lawyer & Solomon Lawyer; her sister, Anna Bell Bryant; her sons-in-law, Glenn Saunders and William Jackson, Jr.
Evanna is survived by her four children, who will miss her dearly, Ancenet Saunders of North Carolina; Roberta Haynes (Charles) of New York; Williemae Jackson of Virginia; Fard M. Fardan aka Robert Coardes, Jr. (Sahar) of Cairo, Egypt. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Dixon (Craig); her brothers, Leemon Lawyer (Rose); Joe Lawyer (Bernice); Isaiah Lawyer (Gwendolyn); Samuel Lawyer (Barshella); her cousin, Laverne Jordan (Ralph) all of South Carolina; and brother-in-law, Calvin Bryant, Sr. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Evanna will be truly missed and remembered for her love for Jehovah, her children, family and friends.
At the request of the family there will be no public viewing of Mrs. Coardes.
