Obituary

Evelyn Jordan Mardis was born September 22, 1949 to the late Will and Margaret Jordan in Birmingham, Alabama and was the youngest of eight siblings. She confessed Christ at an early age and attended Greater Shiloh Baptist Church – Southside. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
She was educated in the Birmingham City School System and graduated from Ullman High School. She also attended Lawson State Community College where she learned sewing. In 1967, she married Oscar Collins and to this union one daughter was born.
Evelyn was employed at Blackburn Manufacturer for many years. She also was employed at Cain Awning Company until her retirement. Later in life, she married Alfonso Mardis and joined the Westend AOH Church of God where she was a faithful and devoted member for more than 15 years.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Will and Margaret Jordan; three brothers: Howard Jordan, Tom Wells, and Joseph Jordan, and two sisters: JoAnn Knight and Margaret Callens.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one loving and devoted daughter, Sharon Hawthorne; two granddaughters, Kayla and Kimberly Mardis; one brother, Wallace Jordan; two sisters, Virginia Knight and Charlie Mae Ham, all of Birmingham, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, other relatives and friends.
